Breaking: SUV Kills 5 and Injures 40 as it Plows Through Christmas Parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin

A red SUV plowed down a parade route yesterday in Waukesha, Wisconsin killing five and injuring at least 40. Police have a suspect in custody and believe the perp was fleeing the scene of a separate incident when they encountered the parade.

That didn’t slow them down.

[CNN] Kaylee Staral, a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel intern who witnessed the incident, told CNN’s Pamela Brown “probably around 20 to 30 minutes into the parade, a red SUV came running down the middle of the street — there were a lot of screams — and we almost thought maybe it was Santa, but it was a red SUV and it hit a lot of people.”

Staral went on to say “there were multiple people on the ground.”

Here’s a series of videos on Twitter – some of them are not easy to watch (more at the link).

[Yahoo!] School bands and a dance troupe of grannies were among those marching through the city of Waukesha when a red SUV came speeding down the road.

It hit dozens of people, including children.

One person is in custody. The incident does not appear “at this time” to be an act of terrorism, one official said.

The suspect appeared to have been fleeing another scene when he ran into people at the parade, the law enforcement official – who is familiar with the early findings of the investigation – told the BBC’s US partner CBS News.

Additional injured are expected as many people are believed to have self-reported to emergency rooms for care.

Corey Montiho said his daughter’s dance team was hit by the SUV.

“There were pom-poms and shoes and spilled hot chocolate everywhere. I had to go from one crumpled body to the other to find my daughter,” he told the paper.

This is one sick mass casualty event and a tragedy. If you are the praying sort, these folks could use some.
