In the interest of setting the record straight, we need to issue a correction. It rained a lot around here this summer, so I went about the usual task of exposing false drought fears and reporting on rainfall totals. But something wasn’t adding up.
The NOAA numbers were fine, but we cross-referenced them against numbers from the Concord Airport which we reported as half-right when they were all wrong.
The Willy Weather Data, which says it cites NOAA, is reporting the 24-month totals and averages for both Year to Date and total average annual rainfall.
Their 2021 numbers and their average annual numbers are both 24-month totals. I’m not sure how they managed that, but they did. We have not received 70.4 inches of rain in 2021 and our annual average is not 95.4 inches. Their over averages, all based on these incorrect annuals, are also incorrect.
We’ve still got a lot of rain just not that much.
Rainfall to date, according to NOAA, is 44.05 inches. That’s 0.29 inches below the hundred-year average and only 5 inches below the 2001-2020 average.
*Update: That’s not quite right either. The YTD in 2021 is probably closer to 35.2 Inches. Looking for a more difinitive source, now.
It should be an above-average year for precipitation in New Hampshire and possibly a snowy start to the winter season if this trend continues into November and December. And they are saying it will be cold.
The Farmer’s Almanac says cold and dry this winter.
It’s another La Nina winter which may mean cold and dry but one site I found says La Nina equals a colder and wetter winter in the Northeast. La Nina snowfall is predicted to be average and slightly above in the White Mountains and Coos county.
What does that mean for snowfall? I looked it up. Averages are around 55 inches in the southern areas of New Hampshire, over 100 inches in the notches (280 on Mt Washington?), and about 70-80 inches everywhere else up north.
There are likely competing averages so find one you like and stick with it. We won’t know till the snow flies and even then, whatever happens, the Left will claim it is all wrong and our fault, even though they have yet to predict anything about much of anything with any degree of accuracy.
That fact should speak for itself, but it won’t unless we keep bringing it up, so we do!
