I had the distinct displeasure of overhearing some of the live school board meeting in Bedford last night. It was on in the other room. The part I overheard was a series of close-to-tears mask-wearing fascists pleading for the Board to mandate masks. I’m happy to report they failed.
By a vote of 3-2, the Bedford School Board approved the measure presented by the Superintendent to make mask-wearing optional this fall.
Our thanks to Superintendent Mike Fournier for suggesting that masks be an option. Thank you to all the parents on both sides who showed up to make their case, even the close-to-tears mask-wearing fascists. And thank you to the school board that listened to the people who made time to step forward and speak and then had the sense to make it the “my body (my kid’s body) my choice” decision.
Future decisions about masking will be based on new cases, blah, blah, blah, which we know to be suspicious and subjective, but for now, kids in Bedford can opt to attend maskless, and they will all be better for it.
Masks, after all, don’t do anything useful in this context, but if they did, the people wearing them would still be protected.
If that’s not true, then the mask fallacy is real, and it all falls apart anyway.
Next, up – Parents ask your kids to pay close attention. We want to know if anyone on the staff is a mask bully.
