Nanny Pelosi is not wasting any time getting herself some Federales. She’s decided to deploy Capitol Police to locations of her choosing. Their job? Assist local DOJ in targeting Americans for prosecution. Imagine the Pope sending the Vatican Guard to police Venice?
Or something.
The local response should be to detain them or send them packing. They have no jurisdiction. But Pelosi is deploying.
The U.S. Capitol Police on Tuesday announced that the agency was opening regional field offices in California and Florida to investigate threats to members of Congress in the wake of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
Threats against members of Congress have increased in recent years. As of Tuesday, total threats so far in 2021 were double what they were at this point a year ago, according to Capitol Police.
To quote the folks at Conservative Tree House,
Essentially, what Nancy Pelosi is doing is expanding the federal law enforcement mechanism of the legislative branch into specific areas where they can investigate political opposition armed with legal authority.
The implication that the Capitol Police have Secret Service-like duties to protect Federal Legislators outside of DC or even the Capitol grounds is likely to be met with challenges. I can’t find anything that suggests they do.
They are mostly door holders and direction givers (and murderers, in at least one instance of which we know). But you can’t federalize policing without boots on the ground. And you can’t exercise federal intimidation without troops loyal to your regime.
And these boots would (theoretically) answer to Nancy, at least while she’s the Speaker – you decide what that means while I get to the point expressed in the title.
There are no US capitols in Texas or Florida, so if Pelosi sends ” DC Police,” what do you as the governor do?
What if they send them to your state or, in my case, New Hampshire? Does Governor Sununu, the AG, the Chiefs of Police, or the County Sheriffs step up and say sorry, you have no jurisdiction. Rent a room, enjoy the visit, buy some maple syrup, cigarettes, and cheap liquor, then get the hell out. Or, alternately, get the hell out?
I want some clarification in advance.
The Live Free or Die State, while still forced to suffer its share of spinless Northeast Republicans, has somehow managed NOT to become Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, and soon Maine. That makes us, what’s the word – something of an insurrectionist in the region—a well-armed one.
If Whoever is Running this extra-constitutional reaction force decides to set up shop in the Granite State, what are our elected officials prepared to do about that?
Anything? Nothing?
