Now that our Governor has signed HB2, the budget “trailer” bill, containing various “policy” matters, into law, and because HB2 as adopted now contains a version of the ban on teaching CRT in our schools that had originally been proposed as a standalone, stronger bill, there may be a tendency to relax with the notion that we have done what is necessary to prevent our children from being indoctrinated with anti-American values.
But if you are thinking that, you are mistaken.
Eliminating the formalized teaching of CRT in our public schools is only a small part of the battle, since even with its mandatory elimination from formal school curricula, there remains a major problem because many, if not most. of the teachers in the public schools come from an educational establishment that trains our teachers and has imbedded CRT into their minds and teaching methods.
In other words, at best, only the first battle in a long war may have been won, but we must keep fighting if we want to preserve our American way of life.
Robert Pondiscio, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and author of How the Other Half Learns, has written a cogent piece in this month’s edition of Commentary magazine, addressing this issue and fairly subtly making a strong argument for school choice, including charter schools, parochial schools, private schools, and home schooling. That article, although somewhat long, is well worth reading and can be found at https://www.commentarymagazine.com/articles/robert-pondiscio/how-us-schools-became-obsessed-with-race/
