For someone that believes in a more limited government doing less (and thus, allowing we individuals to do more in a “Permission-less” Society). The more that an entity grows headwise, the more the need for that head count to justify its existence. Yes, legislators are always creating more and more statutes that requires more “work” to implement those statutes. And, of course, departments have their own regulations and ordinances that they create – always “expanding” their initial mission statements. One great example is many public libraries – seeing that book reading was a losing proposition due to the Internet – have turned themselves into “community centers” – meeting rooms, small amphitheaters. Mine even created a “Teen room” complete with music and video game setups. They lent out those games, lent out videos, movies, and a lot of other stuff.
You know, like the private sector but paid for with taxpayer monies. But I digress…
There is nothing wrong, finally, with Govt having to go through the same pain that we in the private sector go though. That’s one reason why I am dead set against the latest COVID “Relief” bill because its main purpose, so it seems, is to bailout mismanaged government units. Nothing wrong with that sector’s employment going down – it certainly has seemed that the Left hasn’t had much empathy for those that have lost their jobs (except for some politicians that say something because they have to keep up the pretense that they actually do).
Now we get to return the favor. After all, if we have less to spend on paying their wages & benefits (who generally outpay those in the private sector), they should receive less. Been there, done that on the BudComm where govt employess NEVER suffered a loss (and in fact, got rather ticked when their healthcare contributions were raised to try to catch up to what was happening to the rest of us – from all paid to a 5% contribution and boy, did I hear “That’s a PAY CUT!!!”.
Now, some are seeing what we’ve been saying for years – the REAL minimum wage is $0. But I digress….again.
I hear nothing that Govt can’t do what they are supposed to. So why NOT keep that overhead down – for good?
