Republican NH House Speaker Dick Hinch Found Dead This Morning

The Laconia Daily Sun is reporting the passing of New Hampshire House Speaker Dick Hinch. Hinch, a long-time House member from my town of Merrimack was reportedly found dead this morning in his home.

New Hampshire House Speaker Dick Hinch, R-Merrimack, was found dead today at his home, former Speaker Steve Shurtleff confirmed tonight.

“It’s just shocking,” said a subdued Shurtleff.

Hinch, a Navy veteran, was serving his sixth term in the House and had served as a selectman in Merrimack. He was elected Speaker – the top position in the House – earlier this month when lawmakers met to organize.

We’ll follow up if and when we have more details. The cause of death has not been released at the time of publication.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends.
