Get Outside Tonight or Tomorrow – You Might See the ‘Northern Lights’

News, politics, opinion, and Space Weather! Yes, when we notice, and I did. NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center announced a Geomagnetic Storm for Dec 9th (tonight) through the 11th. According to Thrillist, we could see Aurora as far south as Illinois and Pennsylvania. That means all of New England, skies permitting.

The Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) has issued G1, G2, and G3 geomagnetic storm watches for the nights of Wednesday, December 9, and Thursday, December 10. The brief period of a G3 storm alert on the night of December 9 could mean that the northern lights will be seen relatively far south in the continental United States. If it arrives as expected, that could mean a view as far south as parts of northern Illinois and Pennsylvania, among many other places across the country.

In my neck of New Hampshire, we’ve got clouds breaking up late, and clear skies after 3 am. If you’re up, take a look, you might get lucky. If not, Tomorrow night looks clear from sunset until about 10 pm.

Good luck, and let us know if you caught a glimpse!
