I am convinced that all of the Left DOES want “unity” or “political unity”. What they WON’T admit to, obviously, is that Unity means “You need to be like us. Change.”. Yeah, that’s the ticket to Nowhere for most of we Conservative / Free Marketers. And as you all know (since I’ve been telling you for years now), they are Eco-Socialists so how can there be any agreement at all on “political unity”. That means that there has to be shared values and I cannot think of a single political value with which I share with any of them (there might be, I just can’t think of one right now). So, I made sport of them based on their own words: What Happens When Architects Don’t Live Up To Their Climate Pledges?” which talked about architects that signed onto a climate change agreement – and then failed to live to that agreement (you know, like NH politicians who take an oath of office and then ignore it).
The quote, however, that caught my eye in support of sustainability and degrowth of our economies (and yes, degrowth is getting to be a big thing – “you WILL learn to live with less for the benefit of the Earth”:
“There are some things we need to grow – such as ecosystems, human health, community cohesion, political unity, the vitality of the commons – and some things we need to urgently shrink, such as hyper-consumption, luxury lifestyles and unconstrained aviation.”
Yeah, telling me that I need to wear the hair shirt that will never hang in your closet isn’t exactly going to endear me to want to join you in having Government force me to have a sub-standard standard of living. Especially after watching Democrat politician after politician “of Power” tell us to live less due to WuFlu while they do EXACTLY what they tell us NOT to do.
So yes, I kinda snarkily decided on a take on that quote that Lloyd the Architect, author of the post, decided to use:
GraniteGrok:
“There are some things we need to grow – …political unity”
Spoken from the mouths of babes…we’re seeing it now after the Presidential elections where one side of the Democrat Party are calling for Unity – the same ones that have been calling folks like me every name in the book. The other side wants those who just vote for Trump brought up on charges, jailed, put into reeducation camps, or banished from Society.
Good luck with that “unity” bit.
and unconstrained aviation.”
Better get the ear of John Kerry quick! He’s about to hanger his private jet bought with the money from his second wife’s first husband’s fortune and fly all over the globe on the tax payers dime…his two yachts and 12 homes won’t see him for a while…he’ll be a BANG UP Climate Change spoxdude and shining example to we “little people”.
And of course, I got a bit of pushback on that but NOT what I had expected:
oceanstater (emphasis mine):
talk about paranoia, who ever said Trump voters should be brought up on charges?? But I’m glad to note a Trump supporter objects to name-calling!
And I agree with being cynical about the elite questioning aviation as they fly around everywhere. That’s why aviation is given a pass on most state and local regulations (RI even exempts private plane sales from the sales tax applied to cars, bicycles…)
Seriously, an eco-Socialist from a State that hated Trump (Rhode Island) who otherwise knows what’s going on politically. I never did get a reply to:
GraniteGrok:
Take a gander: https://granitegrok.com/blo…
And another clueless one showed up as well. Again, if you’ve been arguing that because folks like me remain unconvinced that YOU should change MY life because of YOUR fear of climate instability, Government MUST force your views upon me. Well, isn’t that “politics”?
Lisa Hood:
I am confused, I thought this Treehugger not politic hugger
Yes you are confused if you think that Government is “unpolitical” – and what is done “in the name of…”:
GraniteGrok:
The post talked about “political unity” so I went there to point out that such unity isn’t going to happen anytime soon when there is little to no unity on philosophy, politics, or culture.
And “Politics” is how groups of people attempt compromise and, from what I’ve seen here for years, is that many THers desire Government to force others into behaviors that they otherwise haven’t been persuaded to adopt voluntarily.
Any time that Government is used (e.g., rent-seeking) to force behaviors, politics is involved. Including Treehugger stuff.
Just saying the quiet part out loud.
Clueless. Or not wanting to say that quiet part out loud because it destroys the Narrative.
They don’t like having the obvious pointed out. May you do so as well.
