The Executive Council District 5 Recount was this morning, and Democrat Deb Pignatelli has conceded to Republican Dave Wheeler after recounting just one town. The town of Merrimack.

The Merrimack count was already subject to some adjustments. As we reported here, the original total for Dave Wheeler was unusually low, given how other Republicans fared.

In the original reports Results, the Democrats lost the district by a thin margin but won Merrimack, 7253, to 6467.

The discrepancy was questioned, so the totals reported from all the counting equipment in Merrimack were re-checked, and Wheeler had received over 8119 votes, not the 6467 originally reported

The new final results were Dave, 8119, and Deb, 7253. A huge error on someone’s part. But no worries, I’m sure it was not deliberate (cough-cough).

The recount started with Merrimack, after which Pignatelli’s conceded, saving everyone a long day and a lot of counting to make up that deficit.

As you can see, the Merrimack recount totals are Wheeler 8057 and Pignatelli 7586.

Deb would need nearly 500 votes across the district, and that’s not likely, so she bowed out and acknowledged Dave Wheeler as the winner.

Congratulations again to Dave Wheeler.
