DISQUS Doodlings: The Left complains that mask wearing has become political. Then they double down and make it more political

by

Beth’s post caught my eye (“Meeting and Protest on Forcing Nashua Businesses to Be Mask Police“) :

The Nashua Mayor and most of the Nashua Board of Aldermen want to force businesses to be the mask police. At the Aldermanic Personnel/Administrative Affairs Committee meeting on Thursday, September 10 at 7:00 pm, the committee members will discuss the proposed amendment to the Nashua mask ordinance.

And that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone – EVERYTHING that the Left is interested in they first make it political. And when they do so, there no longer any give or take, any discussion with non-Leftists is out of the question. Doubt me? I’ll just leave this here as proof (reformatted, emphasis mine):

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said at her weekly press conference Thursday that Demcoratic presidential nominee Joe Biden should not “legitimize” President Trump by agreeing to debate him ahead of the 2020 election. Pelosi warned a debate with Trump would be “an exercise in skullduggery,” citing his “disgraceful” performance against Hillary Clinton in 2016. “I don’t think that there should be any debates,” Pelosi told reporters. “I do not think that the president of the United States has comported himself in a way that anybody has any association with truth, evidence, data and facts.”

“I wouldn’t legitimize a conversation with him nor a debate in terms of the presidency of the United States.”

This is a constant theme lately with Progressives / Socialists / Democrats – that anyone that isn’t one of them isn’t worth the time of day. We can name any number of NH Democrats that won’t give us the time of day (Bruce Currie excepted) much less sit down and have a serious talk about issues and policies, the Collective vs Individuals, Freedom vs the “Common Good” – any number of things. They won’t and Pelosi above serves up a perfect example of said Imperialism of an Idea by the Collective. The co-joined idea is that they can do what they want regardless of any constraints placed on them (like a Constitution or its values?). And that IS their view of Government – they rule, you obey.

Back to the masks – and it is a case of the Nashua Democrats, who rule the roost of City Government, are showing us all a prime example of what I now call The Rule of Elected Kings (or kinglets, if you prefer). The current issue has been forcing the public to wear masks (whose own packaging says it does nothing) in all places as Beth stated. Once again, the excuse is “health and safety of us all” but this is just a sheer power grab by them. They think it normal, as does this guy:

… a Santa Barbara Progressive [Socialist/Communist] councilman accidentally admitted the goal of the far-left is to rule the rest of us and Freedom be damned”:

Referencing the new law criminalizing the use of plastic straws, Councilman Jesse Dominguez said, “Unfortunately, common sense is just not common. We have to regulate every aspect of people’s lives.”

And NH Democrats are in lockstep from a ideology standpoint:

NH State Rep Leigh Webb (D): “The role of government is to legislate behavior“
NH State Rep Laura Pantelakos (D): “I don’t care about protecting peoples’ Liberty“

And in that, the Nashua Democrats follow up with this totalitarianism formerly owned by Royalty, Aristocrats, and Socialists / Communists – at the snap of their fingers, they have no problem in commanding any one and their resources for any purpose they feel fit. They also seem to have no limits, no restraining values (other than “whoops, perhaps we can’t get away with this”).  Commenter Mike brings up a big hole in their thinking (everything reformatted and emphasis mine):

Mike Remski:
So does this apply to the whole of Pheasant Lane mall?

Indeed. Is Nashua going to station police at the demarcation line between NH and MA? Are we going to see any black market movements to avoid this mandate? A never ending of scurrying between shops on the line between the two States?

What “shopping” is actually open in Nashua? Main St was mostly food type places last time I drove through.

As stupid as the masks are, I’m ok with a private business recommending or asking to wear, not requiring it. But for the government to mandate these same private businesses enforce it, no, not a chance.

What IS the RSA that gives the Nashua City Council to mandate this? The problem comes down to this – how much closer is the Land of the Free to Fascism? For YEARS, the Left has accused the Right of being the entity that would bring the US to that point – who knew that the Dems would use a virus and masks to bring it? As was noted:

NITZAKHON: Isn’t the co-opting of a private enterprise’s resources to enforce the law the very definition of Fascism? Or am I missing something?

The answer was easy:

GraniteGrok: You are correct – Mussolini proved that you don’t have to own the cow to control the cow.  I’m betting that the Aldermen are too addled to get that “nuance”.

History. I am of two minds of this – many I know DON’T know history as it actually happened. So believing it of no account, they have no problem in tossing it into the trash. Or they DO know and understand history and how it applies to what they are doing – all the more to more quickly put it into the trash can. Believing they are the “right people”, they feel the lessons of history no longer apply to them.

We won’t know until tomorrow but unless someone comes to their senses and has a moment of “Can we really do this?” sanity, I’m betting that they WILL insist that anyone engaged in business will now accept the role of being a Government employee. The term back in history was “gang-pressing” – picking up drunk sailors out of the gutter only to have them wake up from that drunken stupor miles off-shore. Also called “Shanghai-ing”.

We used to be the Land of the Free – now we’ve been enslaved by masks. We also used to be the Home of the Brave – how many Nashua shopkeeps will rise up and refuse to be an involuntary serf of the Government?
