Is it a good thing when a young boy who grows up with a strong father as a role model? How does a boy who grows up without a father who leads by example of how to love his wife learn that? How does that boy learn to shepherd his children? Will he learn to make sacrifices that benefit both?
All fathers are not perfect but boys are likely will follow in his father’s footsteps wherever they lead. True, a young boy without a father’s model will try to figure it out on his own. The results we need only look to Portland, Seattle, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Chicago, etc. to see.
Girls are not so different. A young girl who knows what it is to be valued and loved by a man will make good decisions regarding future relationships. Those good decisions result in less need for government intrusion and taxpayer support.
Who provides a moral framework?
In many ways, the church does this as well. It provides a moral framework. Most religions teach that all people are worthy of dignity and respect. Notably, Islam does not. Most religions are the image of God.
Morality must be part of our civilization for the principles of limited, republican government to succeed. John Adams recognizes this fact when he wrote to the Massachusetts Militia in 1798. He wrote “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
Benjamin Franklin wrote: “Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”
Progressivism, Marxism is a master restricting freedom; your freedom. Conservatism seeks to expand freedom. Freedom can be expanded only if a society is virtuous. There is a reason America is in dire straits today. Marxists are never about “follow my example” they are always about “do as I say.”
With a moral framework in place, people are more self-reliant. We are more likely to make healthy decisions that benefit society if we are raised in a moral framework. Dependence on the government provides a poor moral framework. With healthy families, children thrive and make positive contributions to society. With strong faith and the virtues, it instills society can flourish.
What the left does… what it says
When the values of faith and family are under attack; when they weaken, society suffers. Society soon descends into personal and corporate chaos. Look around you? Who leads the destruction and chaos? Who builds things?
The result of our loss of values is the antithesis of what the left professes it seeks. The left claims to want unity and progress. But they seek peace from the muzzle of a gun. What we are getting from the Left is the bitter fruit of division and descent into cultural darkness. The Left never wants you to “follow my example,” they always want you to “do as I say.”
The battle to overcome this darkness is daunting, but it can be won. It will require that we stand up to these attacks on faith, family, and conscience. We can no longer slink away in retreat. Being nice, getting along has placed us in this hole. It is time to stand up and be counted. Our Founding Fathers wrote, only a moral, righteous, and virtuous people can be free. Which side are you on, boy… Which side are you on?
