Dr. Deborah Birx was no one of interest to the general population until the COVID19 scare. Now you’d be hard-pressed to find folks who have no clue who she is – a coordinating member of the White House Coronavirus Taskforce. One of those supposed experts. And she thinks you can and should vote in person.

“Well, I can tell you it has been safe for me to go to Starbucks and pick up my order,” Dr. Deborah Birx told Just The News in an interview when asked about in-person voting. – Birx has been traveling the country by car and one of her practices is to visit as many Starbucks as she can in an attempt to gauge whether people are wearing masks and socially distancing. She said her coffee experiences in states that have higher than normal COVID-19 cases, has led her to a conclusion about voting.
She still thinks you should wear a mask and social distance so no, she’s not one of those maskless people who should be dead by now but by some miracle are not. Precautions are recommended. But at the end of the day, voting in person should be no different than any other retail experience.
“If you go into Starbucks in the middle of Texas and Alabama and Mississippi that have very high case rates, then I can’t say that it would be different waiting in line in the polls,” Birx said.
As an adult, we think you should decide for yourself whether to mask up or not on any day ending in “Y.” And that holds for mail-in or absentee voting as well. You decide. But we highly recommend that unless you are away and actually need to vote absentee that if you want to make sure your vote counts, you vote in person.
And you should skip #woke Starbucks. but that might just be me.
One more point. You may be asked to wear a mask when you go to your polling place to vote.
If you want to make a scene, that’s your prerogative. As I understand the law the moderator cannot refuse you your right to vote if you appear at the polls and are a qualified voter. Meaning you live in the town and are a resident. Your call. But that does not mean they might not try to prevent you from entering unmasked, and the ensuing hubbub might result in your not getting to vote.
Just keep that in mind.
Masks may provide a false sense of protection, but we need every vote for this election. The nation and our state literally hang in the balance. Take one for the team if that’s what is required; otherwise, we’ll get Democrats up the wazoo and more mandates and infringements than we can count and masks will be the least of our worries.
