Sabrina Belcher is a Democrat running for mayor of  Sumter, South Carolina. In a desperate effort to attract (presumably) some sympathy votes she staged her own kidnapping, streamed to Facebook Live.

Faking crimes = Bad. First, you are wasting valuable investigative resources that could be focused on actual crimes.

Second, you are making it clear that there simply are not enough actual crimes to advance your suppression narratives (hate crime hoaxes). How oppressed must you be if you have to fake hate or actual crimes to gain sympathy?

Finally, it’s illegal and people running as representatives of the law (for elected office as an example) might do well to remember that breaking the law to get elected does not send the best message.

According to the Sumter Police Department, Belcher and her accomplice Christopher James Eaddy staged and filmed the fake kidnapping and beating to bolster her chances of winning the election.

Moreover, Belcher tried to blame the silly episode on one of her five opponents in the race, breathlessly telling police she had been attacked an unknown assailant, claiming he also tried to rob her.

[And] As “harrowing” as the episode was, Belcher somehow managed to keep her “wits” about her and livestream the whole thing on Facebook.

Not at all a giveaway, like saying you were going out at 2 am in Chicago in 16 below zero weather to get a sandwich from Subway, when you were “attacked by Trump Supporters” with a noose and bleach.
