As people start to discuss more cases where reparations may be owed by the descendants of one group to descendants of another group, it’s time to put things on a solid quantitative basis. So later this year, the Reparator™ reparation calculator will be made available, for free, on both the Apple and Android mobile platforms.
To use it, you have to use the MyHeritage DNA analysis test (or its equivalent) to determine the spectrum of your genetic heritage. That will determine which groups you belong to that either owe, or are owed, reparations. Generally, a person will belong to both kinds of groups, and so some of those reparations will cancel out, leaving a net balance.
For example, if you’re part English, you’ll owe some money to people with Scottish, Irish, and Indian ethnicity ; but if you’re part black, you’ll be owed some money by white Europeans. (If you’re part English and part Scottish, you will owe money to yourself, but the app will consider such debts to be forgiven.) If you’re part Armenian, descendants of some Turks will owe you; but if you’re part Turkish, descendants of some Bulgarians will owe you. And so on.
In any case, everything will get added up, taking into account the correct proportions from your DNA sample, the number of descendants in each group, and the total dollar value of the damages.
The Reparation Foundation is being created as a clearing house for the distribution of funds. If your net balance is positive, the foundation will send you a check. If your net balance is negative, you will forward that amount to the foundation. (The foundation will offer low-interest loans to people with high negative balances.) In either case, you will get a medallion that says ‘I Paid’ (in the ancestral language of your choice), which you can wear with pride, either as a pin or on a chain.
The foundation is already planning social media campaigns, and coordinating with various governments, to pressure businesses to deny entry to customers who are not wearing their medallions.
