Licensing is when the government takes away your right to do something, and then sells it back to you
(H/T: Tombstone Gabby)
NH is one of the most heavily licensed States in the Union. Every time you turn around, it seems, that in order to earn a living, one must beseech and become a supplicant to Daddy Government: “Please, may I make a living”? We’ve transitioned from a “permissionless” society (e.g., we have the freedom to do what we want) to one where we have to ask this board, that commission, this group, that bureaucrat in order to starting putting up a shingle. What almost always happens is that that many of these licensing boards get “captured” by politically connected insiders and it ends up being a barrier-to-entry for newcomers. Seriously, having to take 1,600 hours of cosmetology classes just to braid hair or trim eyebrows? Give us ALL a break!
And nothing, but NOTHING, says that the private sector is in thrall to government than what is currently happening in Concord (via teleconferencing) when even to just open their doors, we seeing a long line of businesses, hat in hand and wearing knee protectors, asking and begging “Please, may I” in order to reopen to a Government that had shut them down in the first place.
It’s rather sad.
Remember what Frank Herbert said in his famous science fiction book, Dune:
The power to destroy a thing is the absolute control over it.
And as we have just seen, Government truly has complete control of Civil Society and Commerce therein.
Is this the country, or the State, we want to live in? Certainly there are a lot on the Left that says “YES!”
