Data Point – the old, the infirm, and COVID-19. Yeah, Freedom, too.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to ANYONE here in NH that has been following the numbers:

More than half of the COVID-19 deaths in Europe have occurred in long-term care or nursing home facilities. It is “an unimaginable human tragedy,” Dr. Hans Kluge declared.

Europe is not alone. At least one in five deaths recorded in the United States so far has occurred in nursing homes or long-term care facilities and experts believe that percentage may grow substantially. The Kaiser Family Foundation, one of the leading health nonprofits in America, reported late last week that 27 percent of the COVID-19 deaths in the 23 states that report fatalities publicly by location have occurred in nursing homes and long-term facilities.

In six of those states — Delaware, Massachusetts, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Utah — the percentage of coronavirus deaths in nursing homes was over 50 percent of total deaths, the foundation reported.

Here in NH it is clear that such institutions make up around half of our 60 deaths thus far. Half.

What would be Sununu’s response if there were only 30 (removing these “location outliers” from the mix)? Would a total lockdown still be necessary for an entire State? If COVID-19 is so dangerous to that population, why not set everyone else free?  Sure, there will be those that are annoying by not wearing masks and social distancing in public. On the other hand, there will also be folks like TMEW and I that will still continue to self-isolate with just a few exceptions. Most will be somewhere in the middle.

Again, our emphasis is Freedom – Govt was never created for “health and safety” and to promote “safe feelings”. We all should decided for ourselves and take the appropriate actions when and if people don’t behave the way I or you want them to. That’s just being a Karen (or for those old enough, Agnes Kravitz).
