NH Primary by the Numbers – The State is an 82% Match to US Demographics

According to the number crunchers at Wallet Hub, New Hampshire is an 82% match for US Demographics. In the context of our primary, that’s not bad. But better for Republicans than Democrats as far as the prediction game goes.

60 percent of New Hampshire-primary winners have won the Democratic party nomination and 80 percent the Republican party nomination. The New Hampshire primary, therefore, is a much better predictor of advancement for Republicans than for Democrats.

New Hampshire scored well on everything but Religion and race.

The Granite State is one of the least religious states in the nation. And a good deal of that religion is more of the social justice variety. In other words the politicization and conquest of faith by progressives.

The mystery that baffles most about the impressive predictive abilities of the New Hampshire primary is grounded in the fact that the state is largely rural with a relatively tiny and demographically homogeneous population. New Hampshire’s roughly 1.36 million residents are 93.2 percent white, compared with the nation’s 76.5 percent.

Their list of demographic comparisons in interesting. Keep in mind the numbers represent the percentage in agreement with the national average on the item or issue. 100% equals a perfect match with national “values.” The point is to compare our primary influence to the makeup of the country based on their data.

Views about religion, the size of government, evolution, and abortion, all deviate more than others. But race is by far the largest difference. We’ve covered that more than once.  That and the stunning fact that Republicans in too white New Hampshire are more likely to nominate people of color for Congress than Democrats.
