Dem Lawmaker Ticketed for Hands-Free Law, Second Offense

This, friends, is the crux of the laws that are passed. Eventually, they’ll get you. Yes, even you, Peter Leishman, who voted ‘Yea’ to pass the same law.

And yes, even for a second time. In your hometown. The town you represent in Concord.

Peter Leishman, 62, Peterborough, use of mobile electronic device (2nd offense), $124 fine.

Ledger-Transcript, “For The Record”, 7 Nov 2019, Page A9

Back in 2014, when “Hands-Free Laws” were sweeping the nation after a rash of deaths due to distracted drivers, NH passed a law that criminalized using a cell phone while driving if you had to hold it. No speaker phone, no texting, etc.

The law, for some reason, went as far to say that you can’t even PULL OVER to use your phone!

Peter Leishman (D-Peterborough) voted for the bill in 2014!

He’s since been hit with violating it, twice. Twice! I’d hate to see HIS insurance bill now!

Now, let’s be honest for a second. Hands free laws have done next to nothing to save lives or improve road safety. I myself am guilty of violating this law, and would never pretend otherwise (unless the police are asking, then I’ll deny everything!) These laws, that AIM to help people, often do not. This is a prime example.

Is distracted driving a problem? Yes. Do people die as a result of it? Yes.

Did the Government solve the problem? NOPE! Can the Government solve the problem? NOPE!

Remember, passing a law is the ultimate form of violence, and eventually that gun will be pointed at you.

As for the “procuring dog license” crimes listed below Mr. Leishman, I’ll look into that and get back to you. It’s bugging me.
