This is the second story I’ve stumbled across in as many days in which food prepared according to Islamic Law made the news. Yesterday, we reported on Public Schools in Dearborn Michigan. Today, I found a story about a group of Muslims pushing KFC to embrace halal as well.

What is missing from both stories is pushback from the left on the imposition of religious doctrine.
If Christians were pushing public schools or private businesses to require vendors to say a few Hail Mary’s before preparing food (in this case for death), the rabid left would lose their minds.
In the case of public schools in Dearborn, Michigan, the separation of church and state organizers are conspicuously absent.
KFC in New Zealand, for their part, has told Muslims requesting it embrace halal, no thanks. The August 2019 report states that,
‘We appreciate their request, however, the issues relating to us being able to certify halal product for customers remain,’ said a KFC a spokesperson. ‘We have no plans to re-introduce halal in New Zealand.’
The Company had looked at it previously, the same way you might consider Kosher certification for Jews but dismissed it as incompatible with their system.
Restaurant Brands – the company that owned KFC in New Zealand – had earlier said a halal trial was carried out in 2001, but complexities in supply chain led to the idea being dropped. Marketing general manager Geraldine Oldham said the fast food chain’s position had not changed and at this stage they had no plans to re-introduce halal options in New Zea land.
A private business is welcome to embrace any legal practice, secular or religious if it feels that might be of interest to its patrons and its investors. Hey, try the new Halal Happy Meal! Halal at Halftime. Its finger liking Good!
But killing a chicken with a sharp knife while saying a prayer probably only works on a smaller scale. And who knows, maybe it’s a great job opportunity for unemployed young Muslim males. We always hear about how they are looking for something to do. But halal may not be practical from a position of production or cost.
But imagine if the friendly folks who run Chick-fil-A suggested every meat provider perform a religious ritual sacrifice of every chicken before processing, I get the sense that the Professional Left would be all over that.
Religious indoctrination. Proselytizing.
Not so much with halal, or sharia, it seems.
Why am I not surprised?
