Mark Sanford’s Campaign Kick-Off to Challenge Trump Attracts One Person

Mark Sanford

Mark Sanford is challenging Donald Trump for the Republican nomination for president. That’s the claim. Though I suspect it is more likely just another media funnel for Never Trumper dogma. And not just because only one person showed up to his campaign launch event.

Yes, one person.

[Philadelphia Enquirer Reporter Anna] Orso said the sole supporter was the father of one of Sanford’s former students at the University of Chicago Institute of Politics where he became a teaching fellow shortly after leaving Congress. Bill Quinn, a retired lawyer and a Democrat, told Sanford that his daughter, a “progressive Democrat, admired Sanford for his integrity.

Everyone else was media, and there weren’t many of them.

Besides me, news conference attendees included two photographers — including an Inquirer photographer — and a 6ABC cameraman who showed up briefly. … No other local TV station showed up to the kickoff spot, even though Fox 29′s studio is a block away. CBS3 and NBC10′s studios were within two miles of Sanford’s news conference.

No Funnel for You

If Sanford thinks he’s getting any media attention, he’s not. Trump owns the media. He’s got them saying his name 24/7/365. The only time Democrats get any notice from the press is when they are talking about Trump. Trying to shoe-horn in a few more negative soundbites about the man will be like a drop of water in an ocean.

And it makes no difference that it is mostly negative. As it will be through 2020 and beyond. That’s all it’s been. All it will ever be – and for the left and Sanford and Walsh and Weld that is bad.

Because the economy is good and that news is positive.

When you have good economy vs bad rhetoric (that continues to turn out to be lies) Economy wins every time.

Short of a major recession, no one is going to displace Donald Trump from his freight train of overflow events or the likelihood that no matter which commie the left props up to challenge him will win. Into which these hapless Republicans, backed by tear-stained RINO money have tossed their quickly trampled-on hats.

Maybe Sanford should try offering to give everyone a pony. He’s got just as much chance of making it happen as Vermin Supreme, but a few more people will show up to his events.

Optics matter. Sanford’s are all bad.
