A long time ago, in a Media Cycle far-far Away (18 days ago), everyone was talking about a New York Times article pimping a book about Brett Kavanaugh. Explosive revelation! New Accusation of Sexual Assault! Turned out to be a complete lie.
The fallout took the book and its authors with it.
Best estimates put hardcover sales for “The Education of Brett Kavanaugh,” at just over 3000. Roll in the eBooks, and maybe it’s 4000 copies. Initial estimates were 10-12K in the first two weeks.
Not. Even. Close.
We should not expect this number to improve with time. Look for it in the bargain bin before Christmas as sellers dump stock to make room for books people want to read. Don’t buy it, look for it and smile when you see it. Not because the authors were trying to be dishonest – I get the sense they were attempting a bipartisan look. But the New York Times was deliberately dishonest. Intent on using it destroy Kavanaugh and forgetting that the new media is forever tailing the old to uncover its sins.
The NYT destroyed the book. The publishers or authors should sue.
And Democrats started squawking about impeaching him; then Trump tweeted something. Probably on purpose.
On the flip side, Mollie Hemingway and Carrie Severino’s “Justice on Trial: The Kavanaugh Confirmation and the Future of the Supreme Court” is a #1 National Bestseller. Ed Mosca reviewed it here.
The utter ruthlessness of the Left: The Left -and that includes virtually all of the Democrat Senators- is willing to go way beyond “playing hard-ball” in the pursuit of political power. In short, they will do anything to “win.” It is impossible NOT to conclude that those championing/supporting Christine Blasey Ford -the woman who accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her in high school- knew that her accusations were untrue.
The lesson? The once-great distinction of having an excerpt in the New York Times is truly dead. Unless you are writing a partisan left-wing screed or smear, you have little hope of any honest treatment. It is not surprising to us on the right. Da Media long ago gave up any pretense of being fair and balanced.
Will those who think they might be approaching a subject from the center learn? If you wrote something and there’s an opportunity to nuke someone the liberal media hates, you might want to insist on seeing what they have to share before you sign off on it.
