Let’s pretend that we have friends on the Left. Now let’s pretend our friends on the Left like America. Okay, now let’s pretend our friends on the left love our country as much as we do. Pretend that they really want a strong economy.
Let’s make-believe they want more jobs; for women, minorities and everyone. Let’s pretend they want a higher standard of living for all.
Let’s pretend
Now, let’s close our eyes and image the last thing they want is a recession. Because you understand, it would hurt millions of average Americans. Imagine they are pleased we have an American president who is standing up to Chinese trade abuses. They are happy we have a President who actually fights for American interests.
It is easy for us to believe our leftist friends knew all along that the Russian collusion narrative was false. They knew there was no evidence to support the allegation. The Leftists understand because they spent a lot of time and money cooking up that cockamamie story. They have been trying to sell it for three years.
It probably would have made money if they put it in the fiction section. Instead, they just kept trying to pass it off as reference material. “I am the fellow citizen of every being that thinks; my country is Truth.” ~Alphonse de Lamartine, “Marseillaise of Peace,” 1841
They Know
Leftists know Republicans don’t want to cut Social Security and throw Grandma off the cliff. They also understand it’s not the Republicans who are Racist or Fascist. Leftists know man-caused global warming claims are a hoax. Heck, the guy who wrote the Green New Deal told us that.
That stuff is simply designed to scare Americans into surrendering more of their rights and money. “We swallow greedily any lie that flatters us, but we sip only little by little at a truth we find bitter.” ~Denis Diderot
Pretending allows us to escape reality. In our imagination, things turn out the way we want. But, continuous pretending can lead to delusional thinking. Reality, however, has a way of biting you on the butt. ‘Man has always sacrificed truth to his vanity, comfort, and advantage. He lives… by make-believe.’ ~W. Somerset Maugham, The Summing Up, 1938
Fool’s paradise
The Left has been living in a fool’s paradise for a long time. They pretend that the federal government will more efficiently run the healthcare system. The Soviet, Venezuelan and Argentine systems collapsed. Not because the system doesn’t work, no.
They collapsed because they had the wrong people managing it. It was operator error… or maybe acceptance of wishful thinking as reality. “It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself.” ~Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia
They continue to pretend that guns, not the perpetrators, are responsible for senseless acts of violence. Leftists espouse the belief that people who enter our country illegally should be allowed to stay. But wait there’s more. Their punishment for coming illegally is free healthcare, citizenship, and education. Why do we have laws again?
Who’s being rational
Leftists have convinced themselves that they are the rational ones. They believe Trump and his supporters who are demented. They pretend to support free speech. At the same time, they work to silence all who disagree. Hey guys, the government did not give us free speech. Read the constitution. That belongs to us. It is the government which cannot take it away.
The Leftists seem to believe that the Betsy Ross flag is a symbol of some white supremacy conspiracy. What’s up with that? They pretended that Hillary Clinton was a great candidate. Maybe this helps explain the opioid crisis. Leftists believe her handling of official, even top-secret emails on an unsecured server was no big deal. National security doesn’t matter. There are no countries that harbor ill intent toward America.
Failure to recognize the right answer when told
Leftists convince themselves that there is no way a Donald Trump can win. They knew they could hound or investigate him out of office. The Leftists were sure President Trump colluded with the Russians to win the election. They had no doubt Robert Mueller would deliver the knockout punch. All of that crap proved to be painfully self-delusion.
Rather than face reality, they simply deny the truth, continuing as before. Leftists are Ignoring the results of three years of investigations. Politics and Truth Make Strange Bedfellows. They are pushing forward with impeachment proceedings. We know McCabe and Comey lied. The report on the FISA warrants is done and soon to be released.
Psychosis
Pretending if they just investigate long enough, they will eventually find something is getting old. When are they going to put forward a legislative effort that helps the average American? They may be delusional but not completely crazy. They will proceed with investigating without forcing their freshman to take a floor vote on anything that matters.
Approaching three years into Trump’s term, they still cannot even bring themselves to admit that he actually won. Acknowledging his policies are working is completely beyond the pale. A neurosis is when people create imaginary castles in the sky. A neurosis becomes a psychosis when they move into them. The bizarre behavior of many on the Left has been called Trump Derangement Syndrome. Maybe the Syndrome is better described as psychosis.
There was a time when we had strong leaders. There were people in the party who could talk them out of these delusions. Once upon a time, there were journalists who asked tough questions. Heck, they even asked followed-ups that forced officeholders to rethink. Today they all drink the same Kool-Aid. “Truth, like gold, is to be obtained not by its growth, but by washing away from it all that is not gold.” ~Leo Tolstoy.
Conclusion
Inspector Horowitz and former U.S. Attorney John Durham are wrapping up their investigations. Maybe their findings and the indictments likely to follow will serve as shock therapy. Perhaps the leftists will come back to some sense of reality. Hope springs eternal. Politics and Truth Make Strange Bedfellows. “Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch, nay, you may kick it all about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening.” ~Oliver Wendell Holmes, The Professor at the Breakfast Table.
