One Solar Bill Gets Governor’s Nod, The Other Gets Vetoed.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one. New Hampshire just passed a law that uses solar to help offset the high cost of electricity for low and moderate-income residents. I’m not even sure I can articulate how stupid that is, but I will try.

SB165 permits the state to authorize two solar projects per year. The purpose of adding more expensive subsidized energy is to provide rate relief from high electricity prices to lower and middle-income folks.

Huh?

The government can’t out of the way or, God forbid, do something legislatively that lowers the cost of electricity for everyone. Instead, the State is authorizing installations that cost more and whose product costs more, to make someone’s electric bill go down. While someone elses’ will have to go up.

We could have done that without a sop to solar.

Solar is not green. It is unreliable. And it is expensive, just like the government.

To his credit Governor, Sununu did veto a separate bill that hiked the RPS mandated “blend” for solar power. SB168 required ‘utilities’ to sell more solar-generated power. From 0.6% to 5.4% by 2025.
