Do-Nothing Broward County Officer Charged with Felony Neglect in Parkland Shooting

Scot Peterson doing nothing while students get shot

After hearing gunshots and doing nothing to save lives during the Parkland Shooting, officer Scot Peterson disappeared himself. But he will need to come out of hiding. He has been arrested and may be facing charges of felony neglect.

Ten of the 11 criminal charges the 56-year-old faces stem from killings and injuries that happened on the third floor. The remaining charge accuses him of perjury during a sworn statement to investigators.

Allahpundit at Hot Air writes,

Here (I think) is the crime Peterson’s been charged with — a subset of child abuse:

(e) “Neglect of a child” means:

1. A caregiver’s failure or omission to provide a child with the care, supervision, and services necessary to maintain the child’s physical and mental health, including, but not limited to, food, nutrition, clothing, shelter, supervision, medicine, and medical services that a prudent person would consider essential for the well-being of the child; or

2. A caregiver’s failure to make a reasonable effort to protect a child from abuse, neglect, or exploitation by another person.

Officers have no legal obligation to protect us. And consequences if any often relate, not to the actions or inactions but the prevailing political will and the reciprocal effect a response will have on the aspirations of others.

While there may be universal condemnation for Peterson, as there should be, proving guilt will be almost as hard as seating a jury. But Florida and Broward County seem intent on testing these waters.

Scott Israel, the politically favored County Sheriff, and friend and family member of the Democrat party establishment got suspended. Now Peterson is facing charges neglecting his duty and perhaps child neglect, for not just failing but refusing to make a reasonable effort to protect children from the exploitation of others.

Wait a minute. “A caregiver’s failure to make a reasonable effort to protect a child from abuse, neglect, or exploitation by another person.”

Any chance that charge can be brought against every Nanny-State Democrat who used the blood of children after Parkland as an excuse to advance the Democrat Socialist preferred disarmament policy that denies law-abiding citizens of their right to self-defense including staff and teachers who could have slowed or stopped Nikolas Cruz shortly after he made his intentions known?

In a perfect world.

But we don’t live in one of those. We have to live with Democrats.
