Broward County Florida Sheriff Scott Israel Suspended

It’s not every day that a corrupt political hack gets what’s coming. But today appears to be one of those days. Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel oversaw the disaster before during and after what we know as the Parkland shooting. His incompetence has earned him the boot.

Incoming Governor Ron DeSantis has suspended him effective today.

“Sheriff Israel has repeatedly failed and has demonstrated a pattern of poor leadership,” DeSantis said in a statement.

“He failed to protect Floridians and visitors during the tragic Fort Lauderdale International Airport shooting in 2017. He failed in his duties to keep our families and children safe during the devastating shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb.14, 2018,” the statement read. “These incidents demonstrate Sheriff Israel’s repeated incompetence and neglect of duty. The families of the victims deserve accountability. It is my job as governor to ensure that the safety of our local communities, especially the safety of our children, is paramount. Government officials must be held accountable for their actions, and/or inactions.

“For these reasons, I am suspending Sheriff Israel from office effective immediately.”

You can find a few Grok posts about the crony sheriff here.

Buzzfeed (I can’t believe I’m writing this) committed a real act of journalism by discovering that the Sheriff had covered up a great deal when he protested that Nikolas Cruz had ONLY(!) come to the department’s attention 23 times – they reported an ADDITIONAL 22 incidents which Scott Israel would prefer you didn’t know about. (And the count kept on climbing from there.)

You can find more details in our Parkland archive here.

Isreal will not be missed. And the people in Broward County will probably be safer for his absence.
