Unethical Behavior in the NH Community College System…?

by

So, is this going on in New Hampshire? Care of the Tax Prof Blog a teacher reports on changes that require students to pay for an online service to pass their classes.

Cengage Mindtap Unethical Behavior

I think that the entire NH Community College system uses both as well (don’t know for sure as I haven’t asked. But Lakes Region Community College just rolled out Canvas campus-wide at last semester). I know that I was told that students were told they had to purchase Cengage/Mind-Tap subscriptions for the course (Cengage publishes the course textbook).

You know something? As a brand new adjunct (last fall), I was told to use it and I did have the students use it once (although their textbook was electronically there if they didn’t want to purchase a hardcopy at twice the price).  After that, I only used it to harvest some questions for tests and quizzes.  That was it. The rest of the time, students used the LMS (Learning Management System) called Canvas for all their assignments.

I’m hoping that what was discovered above isn’t the case here in NH.
