Senate Vote: Shaheen and Hassan Can’t Bring Themselves to Vote Against the Green New Deal

The Green New Deal is Dead. The US Senate voted against the bill 0-57. Not one Democrat would support the legislation but three voted against it and forty-three Democrats, including Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan, opted to vote present. Mitch McConnell didn’t let them off the hook.

“even if Democrats voted “present,” McConnell said Tuesday’s vote put them on the record in favor of the radical resolution, which calls for the transformation of the American economy and infrastructure, including ending air travel and retrofitting every building in America.”

Senator McConnell is correct. Only an outright rejection of this radical transformation can be counted as a legislative commitment to oppose ideas that would catapult transportation back to the 19th century.

Co-sponsor Ed Markey took the opportunity to be hyperbolic.

“Republicans and President Trump may choose to be in denial about the consequences of climate change,” Markey said. “But to ordinary people, climate change is not politics. It is life and death.

Most ordinary people, none of whom you probably know, care about your chicken-little fantasy. Which by itself is unproven. Not only have none of the prognostications of the last 40 years come to pass, there is zero evidence that the government could actually do anything if we were in danger.

Unless by ‘do anything‘ you mean conveniently advance the democrat-socialist power grab; the redistribution of hundreds of billions of dollars into the hands of politicians and bureaucrats to finance an exponential expansion of regulatory force.

New Hampshire Senators Shaheen and Hassan are on the side of regulatory force regardless of results.

We should put that on a bumper sticker.
