Rep. Kanzler is a Democrat from the town of North Conway, New Hampshire. He is (recently) famous for trying to make a distinction between an income tax and a tax on your wages. As it turns out, that is not the only thing he’s confused about. Campaign finance as it relates to election law seems to include a deficit as well.
It is illegal for candidates to accept foreign contributions. And while there is no evidence that Mr. Kanzler accepted any, none whatsoever, he’s on the record claiming that it would be legal for him to accept them.
“Clarifying Point: Q: Harrison, who is allowed to donate to your campaign legally? You’re running for a State position, do I have to be able to vote for you to donate?
A: No, literally anyone can donate. Any country, any state! I have had complete strangers from North Dakota donate $1 to my campaign because they saw my name on some list!”
Not from any country. Not even Canada. Not anytime. Never.
I’m not sure who is advising or mentoring you, if anyone, but you are 0-2 this week on the internet reveals. A tax on your wages is an income tax. And candidates in US elections, regardless of state, cannot accept foreign contributions for political campaigns.
