A New Reason to Hate Them: The New England Patriots Represent White Privilege

No one can win this much. It’s not possible, even after witnessing the come back against the Falcons. The come back against a lot of teams, in a lot of big games. Fans of everyone but the New England Patriots insist they cheat. Own the refs. Even people who stopped watching the NFL are aware of this. Outside of New England, they are reviled. Hated. How about beneficiaries of White Privilege?

Whether you’ve abandoned the NFL or not, this matters.

Stories are percolating about over the last week (probably longer) that the Patriots success is evidence of white privilege. Or, that it, at the very least, serves to represent the idea. I heard one such story on sports talk radio. You can find a few online. It’s got nothing to do with football.

It’s the Culture Sports Fans

Most of this is a reflection on the culture. The media narrative. The individuals who echo it. The Left has more ties to white privilege and racism than the right. Certainly more than Mr. Trump. But when the majority of private multi-million dollar media corporations are on your side, it’s easy to sell a story.

Donald Trump has done more for minorities and blacks in America in two years than the ‘black’ President in his entire political career. But that’s not the story people hear.

The New England Patriots have done more to elevate the game of football. To coach players up. To get kids who dreamt of that moment from childhood to the Superbowl, regardless of the color of their skin. More than any team in this century. Perhaps ever. Athletes who can take that distinction anywhere in the league to get a better contract. More money. More resources. More everything.

A distinction they can use for success outside of football.

Many of them use that to give back. Support charities they believe in. Help their communities. Start new careers.

But none of that matters to fans or the media when your team can’t even get to playoffs. When your team finally gets there but loses on wildcard weekend. Or if they get to the Superbowl, but can’t seem to get back for a decade or more. In many cases collapsing back into mediocrity.

Every new dynasty has failed to form even in years where the Patriots go to the Superbowl and lose.

Defining Excellence Down

I’ll watch the game today but I’ve watched very little of the NFL in recent years. I don’t lose sleep over the anticipation or the outcome.

I am a bit more concerned about how we have reduced ourselves to labeling excellence, or success as impossible without privilege. White privilege. People who study and cram for exams get better grades. Blame it on white privilege?

Doing a good job, putting in extra time, learning new skills, white privilege?

Has the work ethic become a cultural crime? A symptom of white privilege?

But if excellence is white privilege then what about LeBron James?

If he openly supported President Trump, then it would apply.

Which tells you everything you need to know about the left, the narrative, and the culture they are manufacturing and selling to America.

A racist package of brewing hatred that people are buying that is not about what’s best for them. It is about what helps Democrats accumulate power. A resource they have yet to use to the benefit of the so-called victims of white privilege.
