White House ‘Quietly’ Preparing for the Departure of Justice Ginsburg

The Notorious RBG, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, is still recovering from surgery. She had two nodes removed from her lung, believed to be cancerous. She has only missed two official days of “work” while resting up but given her age and the circumstances, someone at the White House thinks it is prudent to prepare for the worst.

The White House “is taking the temperature on possible short-list candidates, reaching out to key stakeholders, and just making sure that people are informed on the process,” said a source familiar with those conversations, who spoke on background given the delicate nature of the subject. “They’re doing it very quietly, of course, because the idea is not to be opportunistic, but just to be prepared so we aren’t caught flat-footed.”…

And of course, someone leaked this

Someone else believes it is prudent to leak the preparations or we wouldn’t know this. We’d suspect it. Ever since her fall last year in her office – x-rays from which spotted the nodes – most folks were thinking about it. But now that there’s activity, exposing it was inevitable. John Sexton at Hot Air Speculates.

I’m curious about where all this information, including a long list of potential nominees, is coming from. Someone is obviously talking and it’s probably safe to assume that person has some agenda. Are they hoping to embarrass the White House and create a pro-Ginsburg backlash? Or is the White House itself leaking this as a way to get the speculation going about Ginsburg’s future? If forced to guess I might choose the latter, but it’s just a guess.

Ginsberg is a tough woman, and we’d never wish her ill or harm. We hope she has a full recovery. But nature often has other plans. Age makes every recovery more complicated. If Justice Ginsburg is unable to continue to carry her weight retirement is inevitable.

And if you think the Kavanaugh hearings were a sham and a circus, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
