Wednesday the House Democratic majority voted to give pay raises to federal employees disciplined for sexual misconduct. They blocked a measure to prevent any federal employee disciplined for sexual harassment or other sexual misconduct from getting a salary increase. #MeToo don’t worry the Dem’s are supporting you… but with friends like that who needs enemies?
House Republicans had pushed the measure amid the “Me Too” movement. Women who have been sexually assaulted or harassed have pointed to several male members of Congress for inappropriate behavior toward female employees. Their proposal would have blocked the 2.6% annual pay increase for any employee who was disciplined for sexual misconduct but remains on the job. Traditionally it goes to all federal employees get the pay bump. Contact your Congressmen. Thank them for their efforts on behalf of the DNC on this measure.
The proposal said: “During calendar year 2019, no increase in pay as authorized under this Act may be provided to any Federal employee who has been disciplined for sexual misconduct under chapter 75 of title 5, United States Code, or any other provision of law.”
By any objective measure, this is just wrong. This legislation passed the House for one reason. The majority party could not stomach a commonsense solution offered by the minority. It is appalling what ‘governing’ has come to in our country. The American people deserve much better than this. Partisanship has its place. Maybe giving pay raises for perpetrators of sexual harassment isn’t of those places. This gives a whole new meaning to pay to play.
