Hailong Zhang has plead guilty to stealing $82,000 dollars in Federal Grants while working at UNH. The College of Life Sciences Research Project Manager used a business card to buy Amazon gift cards.
On 31 occasions from December 2013 to January 2018, Zhang used the credit card to purchase the gift cards from Amazon, which he kept or used to buy merchandise for his personal benefit, including clothing, video games and a snow blower, according to court documents and statements made in court.
In March we reported on charges levied by the US District Attorney’s Office for New Hampshire against Hailong Zhang of Nottingham, New Hampshire, and Jichun Zhang of Durham. The Status of Jichun Zhang’s case is not known. I have been unable to locate records other than the original Press Release charging both defendants with the crimes.
There’s more than one Zhang in this story
Jichun Zhang’s Indictment alleges that on 31 different occasions from approximately January 2016 to December 2017, Zhang used his business credit card to purchase personal items totaling more than $6,900 from Amazon.com, PayPal, and Apple, Inc.
He also generated fake receipts to hide the theft.
