Trump Threatens to Cut Foreign Aid to Honduras, Guatemala, an El Salvador (again)

During family separation week and caravan month, we talked about US foreign aid as leverage to stop mass migrations. Mr. Trump has wielded the language of aid cuts repeatedly. So, to see it again is not surprising.

What would be surprising is if the State Department actually did it.

“…the State Department has reportedly already designated $45.7 million in aid for El Salvador, $69.4 million for Guatemala and $65.7 million for Honduras as part of the broader 2019 aid disbursements.”

With another caravan amassing to make its way to our closed southern border, perhaps it is time for Mexico to apply some pressure. These folks are piling up inside their sovereign territory. The locals are not happy. But I bet the Coyotes and cartels are making a small fortune moving people.
