How long ago was it that both political parties supported America? How long ago was it that both political parties believed America’s border laws should be enforced? Leftists now openly advocate for open borders which is dissolution of America. Earlier this year, the call to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, morphed into a Democrat Party position through support from Senators Warren and Gillibrand et.al. It is easy to see how this high visibility public position encourages more illegal immigration, including the caravans.
Even former President Obama when he was a senator said, at least rhetorically, that illegal immigrants couldn’t be let into the country en masse and without restrictions. “… We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants into this country…” Do you support Obama or Warren & Gillibrand?
If one were to believe the Leftists in government and the media, you would accept that America’s belief has changed with respect to illegal immigration. The Left now increasingly sees any level of border enforcement as unreasonable. The migrant caravans originating in Honduras and heading north to the U.S. are a test. We are going to see how far the Left will go in embracing this new narrative and whether or not the government will enforce our existing law.
Obama’s position of just over a decade ago is now considered offensive by the Left. Some have demand the U.S. let the caravans into the United States. The Boston Herald reports Cambridge, Mass. Mayor Marc McGovern said, “Every one of these people are coming from a real fear. These are refugees… These are people who really are facing real problems and we have to let them through.” The message seems clear; concern over unchecked immigration is illegitimate.
Is this out of step with the American people in general? Americans do hold differing opinions on the issues surrounding immigration. Some want more high-skilled immigrants, others don’t. Some think a wall is necessary for border security, others don’t. But, most agree with the idea that we have a right to control our border and to determine who comes into the country. We are a sovereign nation that must maintain law and order for the safety of our citizens.
The idea that thousands of people can just arrive at the border, demand entrance, and possibly force their way into the country offends our idea that America is a nation of laws. It undermines the idea that we have the right to set our own immigration policies. America has very specific laws regarding legal immigration and asylum. Allowing thousands of people into this country without vetting, with little oversight and little legal standing serves only to encourage more of the same behavior. Concern is being fueled by an increasingly aggressive Leftist insistence that any level of border enforcement is racist and nativist. A view increasingly embraced by progressives of both parties.
Many of the illegal immigrants in the caravans have been manipulated by Leftist parties into believing this is their path to a better life. It’s a Leftist political tactic used to sow chaos. Unfortunately, it puts lives at risk, including those of the illegal immigrants. The caravan tactic is right out of the left’s disorder and chaos playbook. The timing before the U.S.’s midterm elections and coincidental with the change of presidency in Mexico is not an accident. Clearly the caravan organizers are more interested in creating political turmoil than the well-being of the illegal immigrants.
America is going to pay the price of allowing the world to believe we won’t enforce our border laws. The issue at stake with the caravans is not merely immigration, but whether the United States is in fact a sovereign nation. Do the American people have the right to decide their immigration laws? Does our government have the will to enforce those decisions? The Leftists have created a public referendum on illegal immigration. Where are you on this issue? Vote Jobs not Mobs.
