I had to register a vehicle, birth month and all, so I went down to the town hall (because I love standing in lines) to get the vehicle registration renewed. Yes, I know you can do it via email and online. I missed it, and when it turned up (after a lengthy search of my very-crowded in-box), it made more sense to mosey on down to the clerk’s office.
Where requiring photo ID helps prevent fraud, or something.
Does this mean that there are whole segments of the population in New Hampshire who can’t drive because demanding an ID is oppressive, racist, (and a poll tax)?
And if you are registering a vehicle in New Hampshire you are paying a registration fee and need a New Hampshire driver’s license which means you have a fixed residence.
Oh, the Horror!
Wait a minute. I just thought of something.
The same people who are complaining about young people leaving the state are the same people complaining about how wrong it is to require those same young people to get a New Hampshire license or register their car here. But if they did that, then they’d be “New Hampshire Residents” (maybe not to UNH which requires twelve consecutive months of residency before you can be considered for in-state tuition), but it’s a start.
They would be “staying here.” Perhaps for a year or more. And maybe, having made a small investment, they’d be more inclined to stay longer?
Nah, that would never work.
Besides, it’s easier to bitch about both problems, and you get to call people bad names for expecting things that the State Department of Motor Vehicles (and every other department by the way) require.
