It’s not a gun problem – it’s a heart, mind, and soul problem:
Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin called on Americans Friday to “wake up” and recognize that school shootings are a “cultural problem.”
“We have become desensitized to death, we have become desensitized to killing, we have become desensitized to empathy for our fellow man and it’s coming at an extraordinary price and we have got to look at the root causes of this,” Bevin told the Associated Press.
“We can’t celebrate death in video games, celebrate death in TV shows, celebrate death in movies, celebrate death in musical lyrics and remove any sense of morality and sense of higher authority and then expect that things like this are not going to happen,” he added.
For many of us social conservatives, he confirms what we’ve known for decades – that Progressives have deliberately destroyed the social norms that once existed that kept people “in check” just as surely as Law does (to the extent that it does). They only understand the barriers to behavior – are those they impose on others by Law; if a Law does not exist by which Government limits behavior, then behavior does not have to be limited.
They’ve flipped the relationship of people and Government for decades with this philosophy and now proclaim from the parapets of culture that they must do that because people no longer govern themselves. Three points:
- What do they expect, having controlled the power points of culture (media, entertainment, academia) to push their Utopian dystopia by removing traditional “bourgeois” norms?
- Denigrating the role of Christianity and other religions in setting a moral tone for the public – especially in that ALL life is precious and to be cherished, that sometimes because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you SHOULD do something. In other words, Progressives have effectively eliminated any sense of internal control.
- When it is “all about ME!”, then no one else matters. No one. Only my needs, my sense of gratification, and my sense of fulfillment matter.
Progressives have ruined any sense of individual self-control. Then they wail when people do heinous acts like school shootings and quietly walk away from active rape or assault situations instead of doing “what is right”. Yet, even as they laugh tauntingly about we who point out that we didn’t have these problems decades ago, that the days of “Father knows best” were actually pretty bad.
Really? How often did teenagers back then just waltz into a school with guns blazing as if it were just an arcade game and these copycats are vying for the High Score? And they had the means – REALLY high powered rifles set up for hunting just there in their truck racks?
Sidenote: an AR-15 is not a high powered “weapon of war” with just a .223 round. Try a .308 or larger and maybe we’ll start listening to you.
They didn’t – there was this thing called “respect”, a teaching of delayed gratification, a sense of self that “I’m not the most important” – and greater sharing of traditional values across Society instead of the multicultural miasma of shattered identity groups that exists today (thanks to Progressive Democrats).
And from what I read, this latest killer was a Democrat just like the baseball killer-want-to-be who nearly off’d most of the Congressional Republican Leadership.
