I got tweeted by some little birdies…

Federal money-addictionI hear stuff and sometimes I hear a lot of stuff.  Whatever happened to local self-reliance and responsibility in dealing with problems? Item one is about the Opioid problem and “Daddy Moneybags”:

At the Belknap County Republican meeting someone from NH GOP HQ was padding around a petition asking people to sign and support Sununu’s request for more funds from Washington for our drug problem.

To me this is like asking someone to not take $10 from my right pocket but take $20 the left pocket instead, the extra needed to pay Washington overhead in giving us $10 back.

Gotta love (/sarc) that “from” and “our” bits.  To that last part – I’ve said that for years that it doesn’t matter a whit what level of government is arguing with another one who is going to pay for what because when it comes right down to it, it all is coming out of only one wallet – mine.

Oh, that other item?

Eddie Edwards on WMURs CLOSEUPEddie Edwards was the speaker and, when asked, thought it was good to get $$ for this from Washington. In a former setting he thinks it is great that US Senators are elected by the people rather than being selected by state legislatures, he trusts the people.

He doesn’t seem to have grasped the concept of federalism…at least not as I understand it.

If he doesn’t have a grasp on the concept of federalism, then he has little to no idea of how either the NH or the US Constitutions’ philosophical foundations (he should have a talk with Bill Binnie about this).  Sending such a person down to DC would be like holding a chicken above a congregation of alligators (and they know who is the living sacrifice).  Not the only one who wasn’t impressed:

I think this may be a teachable moment. Eddie definitely does not grasp Federalism at all. And, maybe we can educate him. Having spent some time speaking with him, he goes for the short answer when asked in public. Mostly because he does not have the facts. He is not good off the cuff, but he is very charismatic so he gets away with it.

and

I still like Eddie, but if he doesn’t have deep convictions Washington will turn him like a cheap trick.
