“Designated Survivor” just went full anti-gun SJW

This is its second season.  This was built around theme that during a Presidential address to the Congress, terrorists blow it up and just about everyone in the building dies – the Prez, the Veep, Senate and House Leadership and wipes out those institutions.  And thus, the Designated Survivor (a Cabinet member who was in the process of being “eased out”) is hurriedly given the Oath of Office.

It certainly is a novel theme – something rare coming out Hollywood these days that isn’t just some sitcom wound up to wind up and exist to bash Conservatives, especially those concerned with social issues.  It was one of the few (VERY few) network shoes that I would watch; I actually liked it! For a show about politics in DC, it stayed rather un-political. Except starting last week, it went full SJW-auto concerning

“gun violence” and did a PR commercial on the behalf of the Brady Campaign for Civilian Disarmament to Prevent Gun Violence who helped them to come out all guns blazing (see what I just did there?) on the issue.  The BCPGV made it quite clear on their purpose when they briefed the DS staff on their gun demands views.  This group, if you discard its title and burrow into its real purpose, truly does believe that Force should be only held by Government;  Second Amendment be damned.  And this week, the show doubled down and pretty much made it clear the entire show – guns are too scary for we plebes to have and we MUST have more gun control.  And they did it in a way that was not “fair and balanced”.  In fact, those characters that are pro-Second Amendment are put into a dim light indeed. While it was about “universal background checks to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people”.  Yeah, and never mentioned the under story that UBCs is all about Government violating the Right to Private Property and outlaws private sales.

This storyline in DS was not done by accident as the Washington Free Beacon recounts (emphasis mine, reformatted):

A leading gun control group said on Wednesday it briefed the team behind ABC’s Designated Survivor in the lead up to its premiere season and urged its supporters to thank the channel for last week’s episode focusing on guns.  The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, one of the country’s leading gun control groups, said they gave a presentation to the team behind the primetime show starring Kiefer Sutherland.

“Our president Dan Gross presented to members of their team a while back before the season began about representing gun violence on screen and spent time educating them on the issue,” Brendan Kelly, a Brady Campaign spokesman, told the Washington Free Beacon. “It was part of that larger effort I alluded to in [a recent email to Brady supporters] to work with content producers and creators to highlight the issue of gun violence in America and the sensible solutions at our disposal.”

Another example of The Left weaponizing the cultural ramparts.

“I believe that the American people have every right to buy and own guns by virtue of the Second Amendment,” Sutherland’s character said. “I would also like to take a moment to quash the myth that somehow gun control is equal to the Federal Government coming into your home and taking your weapons away. Nobody is advocating for that. We need to be doing everything we can to stop guns from falling into the hands of prior felons, people dealing with serious mental-health issues, people on terrorist watch lists. I mean, come on. We need to be using common sense. It’s as simple as that.”

Yeah, the old canard about “coming to your door” as if that is the only manner in which life can be made harder and harder for those that wish to fully exercise their Second Amendment Rights (one only has to look at NY, CT, and CA to see how the ratchet can be screwed down).  Of COURSE, the Brady Campaign would be in the mood it is:

The Brady Campaign said they were happy with how the series portrayed the issue of gun control.

Happy?  Ecstatic is more like it – all Left and no Right.  Exactly what we see on campuses today except without the screaming.  More subtle, more nuanced – but the same result.  As Cass Sunstein said “Nudge”.  These last two weeks were a shove.

“We hope integrating this issue into storylines can help facilitate more conversation about the everyday gun violence that kills 33,000 Americans a year and shine a spotlight on the sensible steps politicians and gun owners alike can take to help bring that number down,”

Yeah, no mention that 2/3rds of those, 20,000, are suicides.  And if you take out a few urban centers (e.g., Chicago), the rest of that number goes way down.  But the Left is always about “evolving” the rest of us to their standards and the Brady Campaign is quite open that this is their purpose:

Kelly said. “For us, it’s about changing social norms and rethinking the way we talk about guns. Of course we appreciate when the issue is reflected as accurately as possible, recognizing creative liberties can and often are taken in entertainment. We think Designated Survivor really nailed it on that front.”

…”It was great to see ABC’s hit show Designated Survivor incorporate the fight to end gun violence and pass lifesaving gun laws into their script on Wednesday,” Dan Gross said in an email to supporters. “Please join us in thanking ABC for raising awareness and changing misconceptions about this critical issue of gun violence prevention.”

No, it won’t eliminate gun violence. The only thing it will do is to take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens.  But the Left never stops:

Brady’s work to influence Designated Survivor is part of the group’s larger campaign to influence television and film. The group consulted on the script of Miss Sloane as well as scripts for episodes of The Good Wife and Grey’s Anatomy.

And they wonder why viewership goes down?  When are they going to learn that alienating half your potential audience is never a good business plan but a great way to get more Trump.

Miss Sloane was a movie that was known to be anti-gun – it was a financial disaster.

And I’m tired of the holier than thou preaching from the Left.  If DS wants to go way anti-gun, let it do so without me.  I won’t be DVRing anymore.
