“We are going to disrupt business as usual until our demands are reached,”
Sorry, been a bit distracted – shoulda kept up on NH Rebellion’s participation in the Democracy Spring march (here, here, and here) and “get arrested-fest”. Sure, they were all about forcing Congress to bend to their will on getting money out of politics (that isn’t going to happen given the stakes of power over others and reaping some of the trillions spent by the Fed Govt), corruption, and other Progressive nostrums. So, how many of the NH Rebellion actually stood up to be sat down in the back of the paddy wagon(s)? Emphasis mine, reformatted:
Local man among many arrested in Capitol demonstration against ‘big money’ in politics
More than 400 arrests were made Monday at the U.S. Capitol in connection with Democracy Spring demonstrations there. The Democracy Spring organization said it is calling on Congress to end the “corruption of big money” in our politics. It also asked congressional action to “ensure free and fair elections” and to prevent what it called “voter suppression.”
…At least three area residents were at the Capitol Monday and one was arrested. Bennington residents Peter Martel was there with his son Kenneth, an organizer for Democracy Spring. Brian Beihl, the deputy director of the N.H. Rebellion from Antrim, also acted as an organizer and was arrested.
Thousands upon thousands were expected – BIGdisruptions, protestors EVERYwhere! After all, to take over the Capital would requires 10’s upon 10’s of thousands. How many showed?
Beihl described it as a crazy scene because of the 2,000 people who marched from Columbus Circle to the capitol. “The Capitol Police knew we were coming but didn’t have any idea how many people were gonna be there,” he said.
Methinks that Democracy Spring didn’t know either. Their PR set high expectations – 2000 isn’t matching it. And to say that the Capita Police didn’t know? What, you don’t think that they’re not tied into as much social media for “recon”? And it certainly looks like they WERE ready for the DS folks:
The protesters were on the Capitol’s steps for only a few minutes until the police warned they would start arresting anyone who did not back up, according to Beihl. Many got off the steps, but Beihl said the hundreds who remained chose to sit down and were arrested in minutes. Most of those arrested are being charged under D.C. law on crowding, obstructing and hindering, the Capitol police said. The police said those arrested for “unlawful demonstration activity” were being processed using “mass arrest procedures.” Police handcuffed between seven and eight protesters at a time and marched them onto a nearby bus, according to Biehl.
Hmmm, we were told thousands were willing to be arrested – in comparison, only a paltry 400? And how is “sitting” actually “reclaiming? About the only thing DS needs to reclaim is its pride. Largest demonstration in a generation? Heck, the TEA Party rallies were FAR bigger than this (and probably a whole lot more better smelling as well).
“All told, once they were separated out with 400 people up on the steps and the rest of the 1,500, 1,600 people calling back and forth to them. It was quite a raucous group,” Beihl said. On its website, Democracy Spring said it will continue efforts to “reclaim the Capitol” through Saturday.
So there’s Biehl. Any more? Buehler? Buehler? Oh, there is that second NH Rebellion Buehler:
Martel helps organize students for Democracy Spring in Washington D.C. and expects to be arrested Friday in another planned protest, according to his father, Peter. “I’m hoping that this strong message, the lengths that people will go, sends the message to our elected leaders that they better take action or we’re not gonna elect them; they’re gonna lose their jobs,” Beihl said. “It’s unfortunate that we have to have a rally for democracy in the United States of America.”
It is unfortunate to have a rally for democracy in the United States of America – we’re actually a Constitutional Representative Republic. Our Founders hated democracies – they always failed and in their latter stages, turned into mobocracies rivaling that old joke of two wolves and a lamb deciding what was on the dinner menu.
It called for additional protesters to join “one of the largest civil disobedience actions in a generation.”
Hmm, their definition of “largest” seems to need to be revisited…
