Ted Cruz Won ‘Election Day’ in Louisana, Erased 20 point Gap Almost Overnight

louisiana-welcome-sign-Donald Trump won the state of Louisiana but Ted Cruz appears to have gotten more votes on election day, on his way to erasing a 20-point deficit, to come within a few percentage points of The Donald when the dust settled.

Early voting showed Trump with at least a 23-point lead. By Saturday night, after the voting was done, that gap was down to around 3.7 points (with a few precincts still unreported).

The shift is being credited by some to Senator Cruz’ stellar Thursday night debate performance and the beating Trump has taken of late from several directions, but mostly from Marco Rubio.

Whatever the cause, with big wins in Maine and Kansas, this is a meaningful momentum shift away from Trump. Will it last? Who knows. But the inevitability of Trump after Super Tuesday is gone.
