Today’s mailing from the National Republican Senatorial Campaign (NRSC) asked me to join them in sending congratulations for a Victory in the Iowa Caucus.
Were they congratulating the winner, Senator Ted Cruz, who got more votes than any Republican ever in an Iowa Republican caucus and exceeded the polling average expectations by 3.8%? No!
Were they congratulating Senator Marco Rubio for this third place showing that exceeded expectations by 6.2%? No.
Were they congratulating Senator Rand Paul for his campaign and showing? No.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee wasn’t interested in congratulating any Republican Senators. The NRSC is congratulating the person who took second place, whose vote totals were 4.3% below expectations, who was projected to win the caucus but didn’t, Donald Trump! Unbelievable!!!
It is also surprising that the NRSC would be congratulating Trump who claims to have several policy positions that sound very good to me but are opposite the positions of the Republican (and Democrat) establishment(s).
It appears that the Republican Establishment has decided that they can work with Trump. Apparently they have determined, like former President Carter, that Trump is malleable, that he has no firm policy positions. Perhaps, the fact that Trump has changed his positions on several key issues also indicates his malleability. Perhaps Trump’s statements that he gets along well and can work with some of the worst Republican and Democrat politicians signals his malleability.
We have seen many good sounding policy statements before and heard many promises, only to be repeatedly disappointed. Trump’s history of policy changes, support for Democrats, and willingness to get along with the Washington politicians does not bode well for the American people or for our country.
