I make this prediction – because the DC Republicans are more fearful of the media, the Congressional Democrats, and Obama in pursuit of their seats, we’ll be seeing more of this. Once again, we see the utter disdain for their voters (that would be us) with their fixed insistence of “where else will they go” and “But the Democrats will win!”, they truly believe they don’t have to worry about we voters. Once again, we see their utterly stupid reading of the electorate:
GOP showing signs of backing down from vow to block Obama SCOTUS pick
Cracks were emerging Tuesday in congressional Republicans’ position of blocking automatically any candidate nominated by President Obama to fill the Supreme Court seat of the late Antonin Scalia. Sen. Thom Tillis, North Carolina Republican, voiced caution Tuesday about the GOP blocking any Obama nominee without a hearing.
November’s coming, and YOU may in its crosshairs…
“I think we fall into the trap if [we] just simply say, sight unseen, we fall into the trap of being obstructionists,” Mr. Tillis said on the Tyler Cralle radio show. But Mr. Tillis added of the president, “If he puts forth someone that we think is in the mold of President Obama’s vision for America, then we’ll use every device available to block that nomination.”
Sorry, your first sentence is what we’re hearing – the second is just CYA. ALREADY the appeasement is forefront, the political willingness to stand firm gone flaccid. ALREADY, fearful that media will use bad words. ALREADY reeling from Obama’s presser of today calling you bad names.
ALREADY, we are thinking “why should we cast bad votes for these cowardly ones”?
A top aide to Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, responding to Mr. Tillis’ comments, predicted that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky will eventually retreat from his stance of blocking any Obama nominee automatically.
“Senator McConnell’s rash and unprecedented decision to deny aSupreme Court nominee a fair hearing and floor vote has put Republicans in an untenable position, so it is not surprising to see cracks appear so quickly,” said Adam Jentleson, Mr. Reid’s deputy chief of staff. “The next step in this process will be for Senator McConnell to back down and give President Obama’s nominee a hearing and a floor vote. That’s a simple reality.”
Yeah, like Dingy Harry’s 2007 outburst on Bush’s nominees? Why can’t the Rs adopt an attitude of FIGHT! all the time instead of acting like the school wimps? And haven’t they forgotten that nobody likes wimps? But here it is – the Hedge:
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, Iowa Republican, said Tuesday that he had not ruled out holding hearings on Mr. Obama’s eventual nominee. “I would wait until the nominee is made before I would make any decisions,” Mr. Grassley said, according to Radio Iowa. “This is a very serious position to fill and it should be filled and debated during the campaign and filled by either Hillary Clinton, Senator Sanders or whoever’s nominated by the Republicans.”
His comments appeared to be a softening from a statement shortly after Scalia’s death, when Mr. Grassley said it was “standard practice” not to nominate or confirm candidates for the Supreme Court in an election year.
Ya think! Now there’s the loophole that will be torn asunder as those R Senators will tear asunder as they head for what they “a safe space”. Like ferrets, they will use the smallest hole possible to wiggle their collapsible political bodies to get through and away from what’s chasing them.
And I’m not taking this as a “bucking up” either:
But House Speaker Paul D. Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, said Tuesday he supports the idea of blocking any Obama nomination to the Supreme Court. “The Supreme Court is not an extension of the White House,” Mr. Ryan told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “The president has absolutely every right to nominate someone to the Supreme Court, but Congress as an equal branch also has every right not to confirm someone.” Mr. Ryan said an election year is a poor time for such an important decision. “We are knee deep into a presidential election and I think the precedent for not filling a Supreme Court vacancy in such a time is justified,” he said.
Hey, no skin off his back – the US House has NO skin in this game – anyone in it can say anything they want and they are totally irrelevant to the conversation – in this, it is just one more opinion from someone that can’t vote. Sure, speak your mind – you’re entitled. Just like us. But even with the words in the right direction, its not words that matter – its the actions and votes that do and he doesn’t have a vote to cast.
TIme for this, I guessL
