Or as Papa Smurf (John Sununu) famously used to say “Talk, talk, talk” to your family, friends, and neighbors to get them to convince them to join with the Republican Party. Like just pointed out here, Trump has and is doing exactly what he told people to do.
2016 GOP Nominee Preference | ||

First | Attended | |
Time | Before | |
Donald Trump | 43% | 28% |
Ted Cruz | 19% | 25% |
Marco Rubio | 14% | 10% |
It’s just that Trump isn’t “the right kind of guy”. Either is my guy, Ted Cruz – Papa Smurf hates them both for not being the “go along, get along” kind of Establishment Republican like Kasich is (his family’s preferred candidate).
But look at that bolded number – 43%. That is a heck of a lot of new people brought into the Big Tent that the GOPe keeps yakking about. However, just as with the TEA Party that propelled the GOP to victories in 2010, they aren’t “their” people. Trust me, these new people flocking to the GOP banner will be attacked rather soon. In fact, faster than what the Establishment did to the TEA Party was (methinks they believe they learned their lesson – I say they learned badly else why is Trump the frontrunner with Cruz a close second?).
Who knows what will actually happen – will this new class of GOPPers turn out and spend hours out on nights that will be rather cold and could be downright nasty? But right now, there does seem to be a large cohort that is now taking interest in Right of Center politics than they did before.
This is why we all play the game BECAUSE we don’t know the outcome. Politics, much to the dismay of the GOPe, has turned out to be rather interesting and to us news and political junkies, rather exciting. Just hope it doesn’t turn out to be a “careful for what you wish for” experience.
