Steve’s post is talking about the dark underbelly of the “refugee” invasion that Germany’s Prime Minister Angela Merkel both condoned and welcomed – how else was Germany to fill those 1 million jobs for which there were no Germans to fill? It alludes to both the self-deception that the EU is experiencing as well as the almost complete media blackout on the bad “collateral damage” that is being hoisted upon the common folks. C’mon in, we got the light on fer ya. And come they did. And given the absolute political correctness that passes for normality in the EU, NO one was to criticize these Muslims coming in the Middle East or North Africa. Assimilation? You RACIST – how DARE you say anything bad!
Or that’s been the mantra as I’ve watched this mass migration of mostly single, military aged men basically be an invasion force. Were they grateful for being given refuge from their war-torn hellholes? No – I’ve already blogged about their behavior, screaming at the European women that were acting as aid workers, food thrown away and demands for their “own food” shouted, and complaints made about almost everything.
And then the blinkers fell off on New Year’s Eve as these “refugees” turned the annual celebration in a misogynistic mauling of the native single ladies simply out to celebrate the holiday. You see,
the Europeans started to see both the clash of civilizations and, in the crowds that became Muslim majorities, how these men really perceived their hosts – and the lack of respect shown to non-Muslim (“kaffir”) women native to that country. Things are not as their political leaders would have had them believe – that old saw of “are you going to believe them or your lying eyes?” came up fast and in their faces. There is no more hiding of the truth (e.g., that those in the French beneliues are just “youths” and not Muslim youths, and that Malmo in Sweden has become the rape capital of Europe – committed by Muslims “youths”.
The problem? Assimilation, or rather, the lack thereof. In fact, Turkey’s Prime Minister Ergodan gave a speech to 20,000 Turks in 2008 that basically said that you don’t have to assimilate – it is a crime against humanity to expect you to assimilate. GREAT news in nations that worship multi-culturalism that places the host’s culture beneath that of the immigrants’. Here in America, our melting pot is rapidly approaching tossed salad from this pernicious philosophy – resulting in a breakdown in society due to no common shared values.
Anyways, I’m off point for what I wanted to do with this post which was to play “Instapundit” and aggregate some posts on this I’ve come across the last few days.
Hot Air on where this post’s title came from on the breaking news of the sexual battery and rapes happening in Cologne, Germany:
[T]he leaked police report, published in Bild newspaper and Spiegel, a news magazine, claims that one of those involved told officers: “I am Syrian. You have to treat me kindly. Mrs Merkel invited me.” Another tore up his residence permit before the eyes of police, and told them: “You can’t do anything to me, I can get a new one tomorrow.”…The Express newspaper quoted an unnamed police officer who said his squad had detained several people who had “only been in Germany for a few weeks”. “Of these people, 14 were from Syria and one was from Afghanistan. That’s the truth. Although it hurts,” he said.
…The report notes that police officers were “bombarded with fireworks and pelted with glass bottles.” Even after the square was cleared, there were “repeatedly multiple physical confrontations between people as well as groups of people, thefts and robberies in several places at the same time.”
The author of the report draws a grim conclusion: The actions of the police officers was met with a level of disrespect “like I have never experienced in my 29 years of public service.” Because too few officers were on the scene, the ones that were present “reached the limits of their abilities pretty quickly” — their deployment lasted from 9:45 p.m. until 7:30 a.m. As central problems facing law enforcement, the report cites overwhelmed police officers, insufficient personnel and weaknesses in equipment, which were “not to be expected.” The author describes the entire situation on New Years’ Eve as “chaotic and shameful.”
“It hurts” – the realization that the refugees were not the innocents deserving kindness; they were taking advantage of a vacuum of reality on the Germans’ part. And yet, politicians STILL believed that their citizens to be at fault (like that story that held that school girls had to “cover up” because they would give the immigrant men being housed nearby the wrong idea):
Mayor Henriette Reker “said today that women should adopt a ‘code of conduct’ to prevent future assault at a crisis meeting following the sexual attack of women by 1000 men on New Year’s eve,” the London Independent reports:
The crisis management team said prevention measures should include a code of conduct for young women and girls, and Mayor Reker said the existing code of conduct will be updated online. The suggested code of conduct includes maintaining an arm’s length distance from strangers, to stick within your own group, to ask bystanders for help or to intervene as a witness, or to inform the police if you are the victim of such an assault.
…Buried 11 paragraphs and three quoted tweets deep into the Independent’s article is this minor detail:
The attackers were described as North African and Arab appearance by the police. The Mayor has said that not all of the attackers were newly-arrived refugees and had already been known to the police, as reported by The Local.
Already, the apologist for the newly arrived immigrants – and not standing up for your own citizens? But that’s multi-culti! Really, a mayor saying “you had it coming”?? Jonathan Tobin has more:
Yesterday, German authorities came clean about a horrifying event that took place three days earlier. A New Year’s Day event at a square in front of Cologne’s main train station where people gathered to watch fireworks over the Rhine turned into a nightmare. Firecrackers were tossed into the crowd and as the throng fled, gangs of several hundred young men acting in what police said was a “coordinated” manner, assaulted what may have been as many one hundred people. Many women, who were circled and isolated as the gangs broke into separate groups, were sexually assaulted and/or robbed.
Yep, the German political hierarchy didn’t want this to come out, but given the intensity and quantities of the attacks during a high visibility celebration, their goose got cooked. As it is said, it isn’t the crime that’s the worst but the cover up afterwards. And boy, have they been covering up!
And it wasn’t just in Cologne, Germany:
Germany: Stuttgart, Hamburg (“lots of girls crying” and this was cute: Chancellor Angela Merkel condemned the attacks, but said that refugees should not be judged for the events.).
The Cologne police say they believe several hundred men, ages 15 to 35, were involved in the violence that began in the early hours of the New Year, after the square was cleared because men had been throwing firecrackers into the crowd. Wolfgang Albers, Cologne’s chief of police, said the assaults had taken place in the chaos that followed, as the squared was emptied. The men appeared to have broken into smaller groups, the police said, with each one encircling a woman; while some would grope the victim, others would steal her wallet or cellphone…
In an effort to prevent further violence, Ms. Reker said that city officials would begin working on measures to help young women protect themselves and to explain the city’s attitudes and norms to its many newcomers.
Laughable, that.
What is particularly disturbing is that the attacks appear to have been organised. Around 1,000 young men arrived in large groups, seemingly with the specific intention of carrying out attacks on women. Police in Hamburg are now reporting similar incidents on New Year’s Eve in the party area of St Pauli. One politician says this is just the tip of the iceberg…
A British woman visiting Cologne said fireworks had been thrown at her group by men who spoke neither German nor English. “They were trying to hug us, kiss us. One man stole my friend’s bag,” she told the BBC. “Another tried to get us into his ‘private taxi’. I’ve been in scary and even life-threatening situations and I’ve never experienced anything like that.”
Michael Walsh has a great question as this news is coming out:
Deliberately so. But make no mistake: this is a very big deal in Germany, and perhaps the first step in having the scales fall from German eyes as to the nature of the domestic threat. And where, one might ask, were the German men when this was happening? And by “German,” I mean real Germans, not passport-holders.
Allahpundit has one as well: Who’s assimilating whom? Setting up Dhimmitude? Back to Cologne but with a twist of how these “men” treated those women had already been attacked:
Steffi, 31, said she saw “countless weeping women” when she arrived at the station and was hit with a volley of sexist slurs shouted in German as she made her way through the crowd. “I saw a girl… who was crying, with ripped stockings, her skirt askew — she was just wrecked,” she told the daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung. “A young guy came out of the crowd and made vulgar comments. ‘Can I help you? I know I can help you’ he said with a strong accent and made obscene gestures with his hand. When she wanted to get away, he followed her. I told him to piss off.”
And this from the Cologne mayor, as if it was just a triteful mis-understanding:
However, she also said that visitors from “other cultures” should also be educated on acceptable conduct. “We need to prevent confusion about what constitutes happy behaviour and what is utterly separate from openness, especially in sexual behaviour,” she said.
Methinks they are training you, ma’am. And YOU are the failure, not your citizens:
What is apparent is that, during and since, there has been a widespread failure on the part of German authorities and elite institutions. The police failed to protect its citizens, the press dawdled in holding anyone to account (and see, too, those unanswered questions just above), and at least one politician even now seems to struggle to address the issue without suggesting that young women must somehow accommodate the possibility of assaults and “confusion.”
This all carries echoes of the Rotherham scandal, in which British authorities had for years turned a blind eye to a child abuse ring among Pakistani men in the north of England, seemingly at least in part for fear of looking racist. By the time anyone put a stop to it, an estimated 1,400 kids had been abused, often horrifically. Like the German police and politicians in this case—albeit on a much longer and larger scale—the British authorities may have put the need to appear sensitive over the need to enforce core values and basic human rights.
Western liberal elites see themselves both as feminists and as advocates for refugees, immigrants, and minorities. (As a sign at a protest in Cologne on Wednesday, photographed by Reuters, read, “Gegen Sexismus, Gegen Rassismus”—or, “Against Sexism, Against Racism.”) As principles, all of those are fine sentiments. But in the real world, Europe has just admitted large numbers of young men from cultures with aggressively different attitudes towards women. Authorities in Germany and elsewhere, as well as politicians, feminists, and other elites, are going to have to figure out, fast, how to talk and act about the clash of Western absolutes (the ability of women, dressed as they wish, to walk wherever they wish without fear is not up for debate) with immigrant cultures, or many more problems may lie ahead.
Let’s pile on the self-appointed elites, shall we?
DIVERSITY IS OUR STRENGTH: Cologne New Year sex attacks: Germany’s women are angry, scared – and getting tired of excuses. When you import people from a genuine “rape culture,” you will get more rape. And it will persist until you either expel them, or punish enough of them, harshly enough, to make them change their worldview. And, by the way, the same is true of the rape-enabling German political class.
Related: Some un-PC events in Cologne. “To me, the attacks themselves are far less surprising than the fact that a paper like the Guardian isn’t pulling its punches. In fact, the actual events are not surprising at all. The minister may call the attacks ‘a completely new dimension of crime,’ but that only reflects the minister’s ignorance of the Lara Logan story at the hands of a mob in Egypt.”
This is your political class, Europe. They’d rather see sexual assaults against European women, than risk anything that might make “migrants” look bad.
Gee, it sounds like a lot of Americans who believe their elites have bamboozled them over the illegal immigration here and get mad when OUR political elite get upset why we complain – and why we are arming ourselves. They don’t get the fact that we believe they are failing us and that we have to protect ourselves from their mistakes.
But are the elite willing to look at themselves for blame? Heck no!
More than 40 years later, the problem endures. The German government faces growing opposition to, and revulsion towards, a policy that suddenly has produced the mass influx of Muslim immigrants, including more than a few criminals. It has responded by, in the words ofthe Washington Post (paper edition), trying to “enforce civility.” The government is doing this by investigating and punishing inflammatory comments about immigrants.
The government has doled out fines and probation to people for engaging in such speech. It has also reached deals with Facebook, Twitter, and Google to have these outlets remove offensive posts.
The Post says that Germany is cracking down on “hate speech” with an eye to its Nazi past. But it ignores a key part of that past — the suppression of dissent. Germany hardly repudiates its past when the government curbs the right of citizens to express vitriolically their disgust at government policies and their consequences.
And this is telling – what happens when the host culture CAN’T control, even for safety’s sake?
Law enforcement officials lost control of the situation in Cologne on New Year’s Eve, according to an internal report by Germany’s national police, the Bundespolizei, obtained by DER SPIEGEL. The author of the report, dated Jan. 4, is a senior official. He writes: “Women, accompanied or not, literally ran a ‘gauntlet’ through masses of heavily intoxicated men that words cannot describe.” The horde in front of and inside the train station was unmoved by the presence of police.
According to the report, officers encountered many distraught, crying, frightened pedestrians, particularly women and girls. They reported “fights, thefts, sexual assaults against women, etc.” Groups of male migrants were repeatedly named as perpetrators.Identifying those responsible — especially the perpetrators of sexual assaults — “was unfortunately no longer possible.” The reason: “Security forces were unable to get all of the incidents, assaults, crimes, etc. under control. There were simply too many happening at the same time.” Police were frustrated at their inability to help each victim. At times, it wasn’t even possible to record all of the complaints that were being lodged.
Well, Sweden learned its lesson on limitless immigration and is closing that down; Denmark and the Netherlands as well. Now:
Slovakia vows to refuse entry to Muslim migrants
Responding to the sexual assaults in Cologne and Hamburg, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico has reiterated his aim to allow no Muslims into the country. According to reports, some of the attackers were refugees.
Rick Moran is wondering how Europe will respond as reality is really intruding on their politically correct fantasy of Kumbaya / all cultures are equals (hint: not all cultures are equal and the Europeans are learning this hard and fast). And it is spreading:
This story keeps getting more bizarre and even the most hardened humanitarian/politically correct politician has to be wondering what the hell Europe has let itself in for.
Similarly Finnish police have revealed an unusually high level of sexual harassment in Helsinki on New Year’s Eve and said they had been tipped off about plans by groups of asylum seekers to sexually harass women.
Sidenote: More on Helsinki:
Helsinki deputy police chief Ilkka Koskimaki told AFP: “There hasn’t been this kind of harassment on previous New Year’s Eves or other occasions for that matter… This is a completely new phenomenon in Helsinki.” Security guards hired to patrol the city on New Year’s Eve told police there had been “widespread sexual harassment” at a central square where around 20,000 people had gathered for celebrations.
Three sexual assaults allegedly took place at Helsinki’s central railway station on New Year’s Eve, where around 1,000 mostly Iraqi asylum seekers had converged…
Swiss police said several women were allegedly robbed and sexually assaulted in Zurich on New Year’s Eve, adding the attack method appeared “a little bit similar” to that used in a spate of assaults in Germany.
And it has now emerged that similar sex attacks were carried out in Austria, but police didn’t publicise the incidents “to protect the privacy of the victims”.
So what’s changed from previous years’ celebrations? Let’s think about that for a moment. Could it be the weather? Doubt it. Might it be fashions this year are driving Finnish men insane with sexual lust? Not likely.
If you think about it a second, only one explanation comes to mind: refugees from the Middle East have arrived in massive numbers. They come from a culture where this sort of molestation is a form of shaming women into behaving “properly.” So it appears the Muslim refugees have taken it upon themselves to “reform” European women — even if they want no part of the effort.
American Thinker has this (go read the whole post, btw):
These people that we welcomed just three months ago with teddy bears and water bottles on the Munich main railway station started shooting at the police, which then had to come equipped with helmets onto the dome platform, to break that potential for violence. Well seasoned police officers then confessed to me that they never saw something like this in their entire life. They called it quote “a civil war like situation.” And no press coverage about that whatsoever.
Oh, and as far as filling those million jobs because of the decrease of native German births?
In 2015, as more than a million refugees and migrants streamed into Germany, many pundits and industry leaders initially praised Chancellor Angela Merkel’s “welcome policy” as not only being humane but also economically savvy. But now, as Politico reports, a new reality appears to be setting in as the German analysts have a closer look at just who the migrants are. The official government line continues to be that migrants could take some of the unoccupied jobs caused by Germany’s declining labor force (there are as many as one million such jobs). But the director of the Munich-based Ifo Center for the Economics of Education is quoted in the story that “[f]rom everything we know so far, it seems that the majority of refugees would first need extensive training and even then it’s far from certain that it would work out.”
The Politico story also notes that, according to the OECD, on average, an eighth-grader in pre-war Syria had a similar level of education to a third-grade student in Germany. And an official from the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce is quoted as saying, “[s]omeone who comes from Eritrea and says he was an electrician might have repaired a radio or laid a cable there, but he might have never seen a fuse box, as we use it in Germany.”
Plus: “Only a tiny percentage of these asylum seekers are well enough educated to hold down a middle-class enabling professional job in an economy like Germany’s.”
Then there are the cultural differences, which dwarf the educational shortfall.
Yeah, kinda know how that’s gonna work out. GERMAN WOMEN, WELCOME TO SHARIA:
And there will be pushback by “the commoners” even as their elites continue their delusions. After all, it is always the little people that pay for the mistakes:
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE DECIDE THE AUTHORITIES CAN’T — OR WON’T — DO THEIR JOBS: German vigilante group vows to protect women from migrant attackers as 34 suspects are arrested – including three for gang-raping two teenagers. “Thousands have pledged their support to a German vigilante group which has vowed to protect women from migrants in the wake of the New Year’s Eve attacks in Cologne. . . . After the group was launched, and gained thousands of followers overnight, a Dusseldorf police spokesman told local media that German police is responsible for public security. He said the police had no problem with people acting bravely in the face of crime but they were against ‘self proclaimed vigilantes’.” Well, then do your job, buddy.
And the obvious reactions are finally occurring to the obvious actions:
Political tensions over influx of migrants boil over as leaders from central and eastern states declare death of multicultural Europe and call for borders to be sealed. “The idea of multicultural Europe has failed,” proclaimed Robert Fico, the prime minister of Slovakia, calling for an extraordinary summit of EU leaders next week to discuss fresh reports of migrant-led sex attacks emerging from Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Austria and Finland. Bohuslav Sobotka, his Czech counterpart, immediately echoed the call.
“The migrants cannot be integrated, it’s simply impossible,” Mr Fico added, citing a “clear link” between the sex attacks and the influx of refugees that has swept through Europe from the failed states of Syria and North Africa. But Hungary’s hardline conservative leader, Viktor Orban, dismissed such measures, calling for a complete halt to migration into Europe and the establishment of a new “European defence line” on Greece’s northern borders with Macedonia and Bulgaria.
