From Chan, a ‘Grok friend, over Weekend Pundit:
Do they really think anyone will notice?
It appears the DNC has shot itself in the foot by booting New Hampshire’s biggest TV station – WMUR – from televising the Democrat debate scheduled to be held in the state because of an ongoing labor dispute with the union representing a number of TV station employees. But even if it weren’t banned from carrying the debate, I doubt many will be watching it as the debate starts all of 20 minutes before the kickoff of the New York Jets – Dallas Cowboys game.
As Sun Tzu (and Napolean and a few others) said, “Never interrupt your adversaries when they’re making a mistake.”
No, my friend, this is not Debbie Wasserman-Schultz making a mistake – at least not in her world and for her purposes. Certainly, the Democrats (of which she is the head of the Democrat National Committee) cannot afford to alienate one of their biggest special interest groups. No way they could have their Prez Wannabees crossing a picket line and you KNOW that the union(s) would be making a political statement by setting one up. Look, fairly few Republicans are going to get antsy about crossing such a line but Dem pols being seen doing that? It may not be political death but man, why tempt the fate of a thousand yells?
Second, and as I’ve said before, a big part of her political calculus is protecting Hillary. Polls have shown, the more people of the general public see her, the less they like her. So what to do? Virtually hide her. It’s obvious that DWS has decided to limit a wide exposure to “save” what she believes will be the nominee. Why else have debates on Saturdays during “busy times” that would distract most potential viewers from watching?
No, Chan – not a mistake at all. This is deliberate and DWS has shown she’s willing to take the opprobrium of other high ranking Dems for doing so.
