If one of these knifed students were allowed to carry a firearm the perforating perpetrator would have a) stabbed fewer people before being shot and b) would have had to look (at least a little bit) harder for a different gun free zone assuming they knew the odds at UC Merced were not that good.

A suspect stabbed five people on a university campus in central California Wednesday morning before police shot and killed him, authorities said Wednesday.

Two of the victims attacked at the University of California, Merced, were taken by helicopter to hospitals for treatment, spokeswoman Lorena Anderson said. The three other victims were treated locally, she said.

They cancelled classes (naturally) and shut down the entire campus. Trauma!  Could be half the place was a crime scene, we don’t really know yet. There is some kind of press conference at 4 pm Pacific time.  Not sure how much more they will share about the perp but we could probably come up with a few possibilities.

We do know that the lefties and national media will not be calling for more knife laws, knife bans, or knife protests.

[Update] The attacker has been identified as a freshman named Faisal Mohammad. His roommate identified him as a quiet loner who never spoke to anyone, including his roommate. Faisal “gleefully” (as in, reports say he was very happy while doing it) stabbed 4 people with a hunting knife before being shot dead by campus police.

His backpack was detonated by authorities and police are testing the contents. You have to wonder if, maybe, in contained an old disassembled Radio Shack clock in a pencil box, because he went with ‘Plan B’ instead.
