“Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble said today the U.S. and the rest of the democratic world is at a security crossroads in the wake of last month’s deadly al-Shabab attack at a shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya – and suggested an answer could be in arming civilians.
In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Noble said there are really only two choices for protecting open societies from attacks like the one on Westgate mall where so-called “soft targets” are hit: either create secure perimeters around the locations or allow civilians to carry their own guns to protect themselves.
“Societies have to think about how they’re going to approach the problem,” Noble said. “One is to say we want
an armed citizenry; you can see the reason for that. Another is to say the enclaves are so secure that in order to get into the soft target you’re going to have to pass through extraordinary security.”
As I said here, not a single person in that Beteclan concert hall was armed – except for the Jihadists. For the Moms Demand Action crowd, France has VERY strict gun laws – so what are the MDA crowd gonna say now? Or would they like us ALL to be in the situation as in how those 86 murdered folks saw their lives end.
Look, just because one carries means being a hero. Depending on the circumstances, someone who is carrying could be the first one dead (e.g., bad guy rushes in the door and shoots the first guy, THAT guy). But it could be the other way around – there are thousands of such stories where a good guy with a gun makes the bad guy be horizontal and approaching room temperature.
Beteclan – three jihadists. Yes, a 7.62 automatic AK-47 is a fearsome weapon when the 100 innocents had zippo (well, you could at least throw a Zippo, but then what?). But imagine if three others were carrying? Or more? From the reports I’ve read, it could have been possible to take at least one of them out and saved some lives. I can tell you here in NH at any kind of conservative meeting, well, 6 would be a very small number not approaching the actual reality on the floor.
No, I could be that first guy. But you know, I might not, too. Would I be effective in helping to stop bad guys? Dunno. But does it matter?
No as I have made one decision: I refuse to be a victim. And a victim is one that outsources their security to someone else, like the Moms Demand Action crew. I pray they never find themselves in such a situation. But you do know about that phrase about Liberals that get mugged, right?
