Dave Matthews would be happy with being called a socialist and would be most happy if Bernie Sanders was elected President and folks like him would be forced to pay more in taxes.
“Someone could call me a liberal, and I’d say, ‘Thank you.’ Someone could call me a socialist, and I’d say, “I wish I was a socialist.” I should get a shirt that says, “Tax me! Tax the **** out of me!” At least we’re hearing more of a voice from him by having him out there and speaking in complete sentences rather than a bunch of slogans that don’t mean anything. So I feel like there’s hope as long as some people are speaking to the real problem in this country.”
I wonder if he’ be happy with Bernie taking a page out of French socialist President Hollande and his imposition of a 75% top tax rate? Imagine that, Mr. Matthews – use your time and talent to make $100,000 / gig and see $750K taken right away from you. Over and over and over again.
The article says Matthews voted for Obama twice, so this is what has me confused – while Bernie is out of the closet as being a socialist, I can’t think of much separation between Obama and Sanders politically or ideologically. So why doesn’t Matthew just write the check NOW and gift it to the US Treasury? Isn’t it Treasury that writes all the checks to pay for all the “real problems in the country”? Why wait, Dave, why hesitate? Pull a Nike and just “Do it!”.
But he won’t. None of these nitwits that believe that Big Government can and will solve all those “real problems” will voluntarily give it up – even as they plead for their money to be taken from them. It seems to be a mental problem with them: take it from me by force! Otherwise, nope, hands off.
It also shows that Matthews hasn’t learned his history or that pithy saying “A Government big enough to give you everything is big enough to take it away”.
The Bigger the Government, the smaller the citizen
Is that what Dave Matthews wants – smaller citizens? That citizens should serve The State? THat’s what happens when The State grows – apparently, Matthews hasn’t been looking around (politically speaking) much lately.
If he does believe that the answer to all our problems is Government, then Obama has fundamentally transformed the spirit of America.
And the light starts to flicker on the formerly shining City on the Hill.
