He knew that ANY government may abuse its citizens – even the American one. We have become unmoored from our original sense of political philosophy that held this danger at bay – with the rise of the Progressive movement, this sense that Citizens were to be in charge is at the tipping point of the Progressive “end point” of having the Administrative State having subjects.
That is to say, no different than any other government in history.
Washington knew, along with the other Founders, that this was a possibility and thus, the need for citizens to defend themselves.
And yes, if I could afford it, I’d love to have my own personal A-10. Why not – I’m a lawful, law abiding citizen, right?
